    Archaic meaning was eminent and distinguished. Basically remarkable in a good way.
    Now it usually means remarkable in a bad way, gross, outrageous, flagrant.

    Usage:
    Rajiv had expelled the more egregious members of his mother's inner circle, but only to install his own favorites.
