'Incredible India' campaign wins World Travel Award

The reigning Miss World, Ksenia Kukhinova of Russia, presented the award to India's Tourism Minister, Kumari Selja at a gala function held at the Grosvenor House here.

Selja, who is here to participate in the World Travel Market, also received the Asian Guild Award for promoting the 'Incredible India' campaign at a function held at the House of Lords last evening.

Jagmohan: need to reform tourism sector

New Delhi, May 10
The Union Minister of Tourism, Mr Jagmohan, said today that the Central Government would be helping only those states which would themselves promote tourism.
Speaking at a conference organised by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), Mr Jagmohan said tourism was not an isolated sector.
“There is a need for total reform of the system”, he said even as he assured all support in the form of resources from the Centre to the states.
Mr Jagmohan said there was an ample scope for coordination and collaboration between the industry and the Department of Tourism. This would yield maximum results at minimum costs. All archaeological monuments and temples in the historic places would be renovated. A composite infrastructure plan would be drawn up and the Centre would help the state governments in this endeavour, he added.
Mr Jagmohan said in spite of having various laws there was a serious lacunae when it comes to implementation. There had been no enthusiasm to rebuild the nation whereas developmental activity requires commitment and motivation. Northern regions could also consider signing MoUs with each other and the Government of India for tripartite agreements to develop and promote tourism.

Truely many steps taken by BJP govt. were innovative. And they should be given due regard for their efforts by appreciation may be today. Jagmohan was a good administrator he is known for his deeds wherever he served it may be delhi demolition drive, Kashmir governor or minister of tourism.

Yes its the ad that runs a lot here as well andd goes a long way ind efining the image of India , I have not heard from a single foreigner I have met thus far that he does not want to go to India. Everyone is very very interested.

Glad to see the award for India.

However , I have one personal experience to share with you - One swiss fellow was at our project for co-ordination & after seeing the working style of Indian ( leg pulling & thrown the ball in others court ) he commented "Incredible India"
