When things like honor killing comes up in news,,its really sad to hear..We all get to hear that economy is booming,,there is growth happening ..but somewhere down the line there is stagnancy in peoples mind..they dont want to change..Killing a person brutally is in human..No person has any right to take anyones life..Its god gift..Its shame on the so called society..Just a bunch of people can not take a decision abt a human life..Its sick..I totally condemn it..people should evolve as a human..Academics is of no use,,If it does not make u a better human being..Its sad,,but many educated people are also in favor of such killing..for them its a matter of PRIDE..

The whole debate "Whether Honour killing is justified" is meaningless...killing can never be justified… Period. Do we think that if we get more “Ayes” than “Nays” against this poll, then honour killing should be made into a law?

Even State which has a right to take lives does so in "Rarest of Rare" cases, what to talk of lesser mortals like you and me. Honour killing can never be condoned. We have no right whatsoever to do so under whatever pretext.

But the larger question is: Honour killings do happen and it's nothing but societal pressure that induces this extreme step. Condemning honour killing does not conclude that people should take the customs for granted. Let the transgressors be subjected to lesser forms of punishment like social boycot etc, that itself is a big enough punishment. At the same time, as we progress, the society changes in manifestations and several dogmas erode with time, also several bad habits make their way. Let us preserve what is good & scientific (e.g.: avoidance of gotras to rule out inbreeding, age old ayurvedic healing methods, altruistic attitude of jats et al) and let us overcome what is bad (like honour killings, female feticide..).

Also, so called demagogues (our leaders irrespective of their political affiliations) have little to contribute in this social upheaval, its upto the mango people like us to take the step forward by educating one and all. Let us not behave like neo liberals for whom anything that is OLD is OUTDATED, BAD and anything that is NEW is MODERN and GOOD.
Why can’t we have a centrist approach (preserve what is good and humane, discard what is bad) and not oscillate between extreme lefts and rights? :rolleyes:

I think thread "12 points by MahaPanchayat - How much you agree?" poll option which says "Less than or equal to 3" is not clear on finding people who oppose same gotra marriage or who favor same gotra marriage.Or people who want amendment in hindu marriage act or not.

There might be some brave people(According to you) who do not like any of these three points and there might be people who agree with all three points. New threads started by Vipin give a clear picture on people's opinion.

If u were able to understand the post correctly then, you must not have said the first line ... anyway I dont mind even if u reiterate same thing infinite no of times ... will maintain my cool.

in true terms Honour killing should be in case of Kasab/Afgal Guru etc.Gotra vivah should not be accepted. i heard in Andhra pardesh,a brother can marry to his sister daughter.thats is there parampara. i think in Haryana if i am right three gotra should be avoided mother/father/grandmother.
