Kabaddi is a sport being played by couple of nations only. Wrestling is an internationally recognized sport so where do you see the future?

Kabbadi vs Wrestling in International Multi-sports Sporting Events:
Wrestling, is included in all major global sporting competitions be it CWG, Asiad or Olympics. Whereas Kabaddi is mainly played in SARC games only. This provides comparatively less media exposer and hype to kabaddi.

Funding for Kabbadi by Haryana Govt:
This does not automatically mean that players have diverted attention from kabaddi to wrestling, though there may be an element of truth in it due to increased career prospects and monetary rewards. Though I doubt that Haryana government per se discriminates in allocation of funds or scholarships (5000 sports based scholarships to Haryana school kids last year).

    Kabbadi Overseass:
In fact, kabaddi is gradually spreading as it is now being played in Sikh Games in Canada and Australia (where I lived, competitions were held in Liverpool in Sydney), also Philippines (30,000 Sindhi and now punjabi including jat sikhs live, mainly as money lenders, some recent migrants), Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore (where I currently live) do have national kabbadi teams and federations, though mainly dominated by Sikh or players of Indian-origin. Canada, USA and Australia - all have annual Sikh games, where kabbadi is well contested and keenly watched. recently dedicated Indian schools have opened in New Zealand, Australia and Singapore (they already exist in Malaysia, USA and UK) and some of these schools have kabaddi as an option for extra-curricular and sports activity.

    Kabaddi Premier League
Just noticed that walking on the footprints of IPL, the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India is conducting a national championship in which 80 leading players, including those from foreign countries, are participating. The tournament called Kabaddi Premier League Championship -2011 has started. Eight teams with 10 players each backed by corporate franchisees are participating in the tournament. To maintain the balance, four international and six national players are allocated for each team. It would be for the first time that the Kabaddi Championship is being played on synthetic ground in an indoor stadium and under floodlights. Four matches will be played everyday for seven days.Semifinal will be held on June 15 and final on June 16.
Not sure who all are participating from Haryana and from Jat community. But tune in to DDSports to watch this amazing game.
