Yes, I also studied this A for apple, b for book, C for cat D for dog and so on but later on I came to know that it can be A for arrow, B for banana and so on. As it is said earlier, its not the question of theory or the definition but implementation. I will for Rinku Ji to tell us why did he ask this question.

Majority of people think like this and believe these are the pros of Democracy that's why we can't handle democracy and value freedom cuz' we got all these for free so we don't know the worth of it therefore this is high time to impose Martial Law so our Janta get the real treatment for not following discipline n' duty and then am sure they'll realize what's the real democracy and how to live into that.
ps: I don't know if you're being sarcastic or realistic here but wondering if you'll do the same spiting, peeing on your house walls? If not, then why on other's or public places? Aint our country is our home or not? Ghar ko saaf rakhenge leking desh ko saaf nahi, why such ill-mentality ??

Do something first, then boast about it here. Apply martial law first, see its consequences (good/bad) and if it fails then dont come back saying that I was better with "democracy" earlier. Its as simple and straight forward as it looks! Do it. You are heartly invited for a booze at my place afterwards

Democracy has meaning only when at least the fundamental rights of people are protected. For this, it has to viewed from holistic approach. And laws, governance and justice are all as important as the election process.
To site a current example, Binayak Sen’s wife, Ilina Sen, has been booked by Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) yesterday just because she did not informing the police about the arrival of an eight-member European Union delegation for a convention she organised.
Do you call harassing of innocents under one archaic law or another as democracy?
------------------------------------
Story details: Binayak Sen’s wife booked by ATS
The Maharashtra anti-terrorism squad on Monday booked Ilina Sen, wife of jailed rights activist Binayak Sen, for not informing the police about the arrival of several foreign nationals for a convention she organised. Meanwhile, the hearing of her husband’s bail plea in the Chhattisgarh high court is
set to continue on Tuesday.
The foreigners had come to attend a three-day convention in Wardha, about 80 km from Nagpur.
Ilina has been under close police watch for spearheading a campaign to free Binayak Sen, who was convicted by a Raipur sessions court on December 24 and sentenced to life on sedition charges over his links with Maoist ideologue Narayan Sanyal.
In Raipur, eminent lawyer Ram Jethmalani argued forcefully for more than two hours at the hearing of Binayak Sen’s bail plea, asserting that there was no substantive evidence to prove that he had committed any offence that comes under the purview of sedition.
Jethmalani told a division bench of Justice TP Sharma and Justice RL Jhanwar that the trial court’s conviction was based solely on police version.
“The letter which was seized by the police did not have anything objectionable written,” argued the senior lawyer, who is also a Rajya Sabha member.
Referring to the 60-year-old rights activist’s arrest on May 14, 2007 under the Chhattisgarh Special Public Security Act, Jethmalani said, “A petition challenging the validity of the Act is still pending for consideration before the high court.”
An eight-member European Union delegation was also present in the court to attend the hearing. They, however, refused to speak to the media saying the hearing would commence on Tuesday.
The EU in its statement has expressed concern about the conditions pertaining to the detention of Binayak Sen.

The following news is also important for the discussion.
----------------
Nothing surprising in monitoring Binayak case: EU
New Delhi, Jan 24 (PTI) European Union today said there was no need to be surprised about the grouping showing interest in the case relating to rights activist Binayak Sen, sentenced to life imprisonment for sedition, as it takes a lot of interest in human rights defenders.
"The EU takes a lot of care of all human rights defenders around the world, whether in India or anywhere else in the world. So you should not be surprised that we are interested in the case of Dr Sen," EU Ambassador to India Daniele Smadja said.
"In addition, the EU has been following this case since a couple of years and in fact, we had sent observers in July 20008," Smadja said.
After the United Nations, the European Union has told India that it would like to keep a watch on the hearing on the appeal of Binayak Sen in the Chhattisgrah High Court while expressing concern over the condition of his detention.
An eight-member team of European Union, which had reached Raipur yesterday, faced protests from lawyers and ABVP workers who showed EU representatives black flags and shouted slogans against them.

On paper Democracy but on ground Dictetorship in disguise or dictetorship in the name of democracy. Brother every body knows that we have a democracy but whether it is working or not ? In true sense, our democracy is working as safe tool for few who donot understand, donot like & donot allow the best form of governing system. regards

Sarcasm, my friend! Since you were yourself calling China a democracy through some curious and spurious logic. Now, don't tell me you believe China is a democracy because a powerful Chinese said so. Because many a powerful Chinese also say that Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Ladakh are all part of China.

I think we should also ask Kim-Jong 2 of North Korea whether his country is a democracy- maybe he'd call it a "military democracy". Actually this should end the debate here. All countries whose leaders call them as democracies are democracies. Indian leaders obv. call India a democracy. Hence, India is a democracy! QED!!
