Thread: Research on history of Jat clans

    Narendraji

Can you give some more details of Moond Asura King (Markandeya puran) and his ancestry ? After that we can judge if they were same or different. When it becomes a clan then every king will be known by Munda so may be they are same clan people.

Kauravya was a Nagavanshi King and Ulūpī (उलूपी) was daughter of Kauravya, Raja of the Nagas, with whom Arjuna contracted a kind of marriage. She was nurse to her stepson, Babhruvahana, and had great influence over him. According to the Vishnu Purana she had a son named Iravat.

    Good information Burdakji.

Could you share your research related to the study fo Mahabharata by throwing some light on the issue relating to relationship between the Kauravas and Pandavas. Had they kinship or belonged to different groups of the Aryans or were they both Aryan stock or belonged to some separate origin as supposed by some historians. This post under reference creates many questions of this sort.
    Regards.

Some sources tell us even some chapters in Mahabharata indicate that Pandavas were of different lineage than Kauravas. We have a book on Jatland Wiki [Wiki]Myths and Legends of the Hindus & Buddhists[/Wiki] by Sister Nivedita. One may like to go through it.

The search of Russian surnames as studied by Blitz in year 2002 on its Ethnic, Religious, and National Index, revealed a number of common surnames between Jats of India and the native population. For example, there is surname - Burdakov (Burdakoff).[1]

Mr. Ivan Burdak is a prominent diplomat in Ukraine.[2] There are surnames in Ukraine such as BurdakOV meaning son of Burdak, and BurdakOVA meaning daughter of Burdak.[2]

    I. Sara, a Canadian barrister and solicitor has pointed out that the recent excavations in the Ukraine and Crimea provide visible links of Jats and Scythians.[1]

Cap. Dalip Singh Ahalawat has reported in an article published in Jat Samaj Patrika (Oct./Nov. 1991), that Jats had ruled in Scythia and Central Asia. He has given a list of about 70 Jat gotras who have ruled over there.[1]

    B. S. Nijjar suggests:

"The Jats are the descendants of Scythians, whose kingdom's capital was Scythia, in the present Ukraine (Ukrainian), Soviet Social Republic, is the constituent Republic of the European USSR (Population 49,757,000) in 1947. Now Ukraine's capital is Kiev, the third leading city in Russia. Before the invasion of the golden herd, 13th century B.C. Scythian, ancient kingdom of indeterminate boundaries, centered in the area north of the Black Sea."[3]

The Scythians who brought an end to the Greek rule first in Bactria and then in India, were originally Scythians of present Ukraine in Russia. Persians named them Sakas, who onwards began to be called Sakas, in India.[1]

Herodotus expressly states that the term 'Sakas' was used by the Persians to denote Scythians generally; and this statement is certainly in accordance with the use of the word in the inscriptions of Darius, the king of Iran. In one of these, it occurs together with descriptions which show that it denotes certain Scythians in Europe as well as two branches of Scythians in Asia. These, we have reason to believe, are specimens merely of the innumerable swarms of nomads which had been finding their way during untold centuries from that great hive of humanity, China, to Western Asia and to Europe.
