Jat reservation: Can we take politicians' assurance seriously?

Jat protestors give up agitation in Haryana, but protests to continue in Delhi

Jat protestors have given up agitation for reservation in Haryana after assurance (supposedly in writing) from Hoodaji. The question is how seriously can we take these assurances to be. It is the same Hooda ji who when in opposition supported the cause of Jat reservation and completely forgot about it when he came to power the first time and then even the second time. But Hoodaji had no hesitation or shame in giving Punjabi language the second official language status in Haryana. But he shies away from the Jat cause. Chautala ji didnot do anything either when he was in power. What use it that we then support and feel happy that a Jat has become a CM in Haryana/Delhi/Rajasthan/UP.

Jat reservation supporters in Delhi have however reiterated that their agitation would continue and that they would chalk out a calendar of activities in this regard. Let us try to understand that this is going to be a long drawn war with a lot of battles spread out on the way which would involve some collateral damage. We need to have a lot of patience and perseverance and should take on the mantle turnwise in this long drawn struggle.

I strongly believe that there is lot of scope for networking and use of technology within the community - sms, emails, internet, etc which will surely help us mobilise our members and resources at short notice. At the same time, we need to form sub-committees with each specialising in a certain field - a legal committee comprising of legal aspects specialising in legal matters especially constitutional affairs, IT committee specialising in the setting up and spreading of information technology networking within the community, media communication committe - specialising in putting across the true picture and voice of the community to the general population, Resource mobilisation committee - garnering and managing funds for the Jat reservation campaign, Political cell which will shortlist, chose and support only those Jat politicians who truly support the cause, etc. etc. We need to have representative offices in various towns, cities, villages which will be networked to the main hub. We need to have more of community meetings across all those representative offices and at the hub.

I know the above seems good in print but is actually difficult to achieve in practice but we have to do it for the good of all by giving to it our time, effort, expertise, etc.

The current breed of Jat politicians in general is useless for Jat causes and needs to be ignored at present and in future. Its time to learn from our past mistakes and move on.

Politicians will nothing but be and behave politicians only and the so called janta will behave the same way it is behaving since time immemorial. We do not have strong leaders who are keen to bring about change in the society,.,, every election is nothing but beating around the bush, we have not yet evolved into a good question asking society from our so called leader and neither do the leaders try to change the system to make it more competitive,.No one here is playing the game for community development, i would say no one is having balls to do this. All have the same agenda to be in power and get rich , introduce grandsons in politics................thats it.

well yes the struggle has to go on till the time we get reservation.

The set up suggested by you needs to be followed and should be implemented even after reservation war is won.As than we have to get on to some other evil of the society in order to keep things changing, till the time whole structure of the society becomes more powerfull and foolproof in which the crooks gets the spank and one who deserve to be flourishing, they cherish .

Yes, There is great dearth of Mass Jat leader in our social arena the lack that our society is paying. With raising some local social issues few try to become known figure, when such leaders see their names in Print media they join politics and give up social issues start minting money for their unborn generations. How you will meet this demand?

These politicians are all the same.

Agar Hoodaji aarakshan ko lekar serious hote toh abhi tak at least Haryana mein abhi tak Jaaton ko reservation mil liya hota.

Hoodaji like all his colleagues in the Congress party are experts in TOPI PEHNANA. They were all for Jat reservation when they were in opposition. But so conveniently forgot the entire issue as soon as they came to power forgetting the very community that brought them to power.

As far as votes are concerned, just before the next elections they will again promise that they will give reservation when they come to power next. And the people who have relatively short memories will forget the betrayal and again vote for them because they are Jats. Moreover, the congress party does not need votes, IT KNOWS FULLY WELL HOW TO PURCHASE MPs - AS IT IS, THE CONGRESS PARTY HAS EARNED ENOUGH MONEY FROM ALL THE SCAMS - they can easily purchase all the MPs they need to come back to power again.

Brother, you are absolutely right, look, still some educated people feel, we have good democracy working in our country, neither we have democracy nore rule of law, neither we follow well established traditions nore we go for natural justice. It is totally a Popabai ka raj.

SC allows 10% relaxation for OBC students in minimum eligibility criteria

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that OBC students will be admitted to 27% quota in central educational institutions on the basis of eligibility criteria which is 10% less than that for general candidates and not on the basis of last cut off for general category students.

The SC extended admission date in colleges, including JNU and Delhi university, till August 31 to fill OBC quota seats on the basis of its judgement.

The court said the OBC quota seats can revert to general category only if OBC candidates with minimum eligibility marks were not available.

    Aggarwals, Punjabis, too, seek quota
    Yoginder Gupta
    Tribune News Service

    Chandigarh, September 1
Ever since the Haryana Government has constituted the Backward Classes Commission, a race has begun among various communities living in the state to get their name included in the list of Backward Classes.
Even those communities, which have been traditionally considered as forward, are representing to the commission to stake their claim to the status of a Backward Class. In the past few days, the Bishnois and the Brahmins are some of the communities, which have submitted memorandums to the commission.
Today the Aggarwals, generally considered as a trading community, and the Punjabis, known as a hard-working community, approached the commission to seek reservation in the category of Backward Classes.
In a representation submitted by Kulbhushan Goyal, president of the Haryana unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Aggarwal Sammelan, the Aggarwals opposed any reservation based on caste. The community said the reservation should be based on economic criteria.
The memorandum said that under Article 15 and Article 16 of the Constitution, special provision could be made for advancement of any socially and educationally backward classes of citizens or for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes for reservation in jobs, if in the opinion of the state, that class was not adequately represented in the services under the state.
It further suggested that only persons or families engaged in business having a turnover of less than Rs 20 lakh per annum; farmers having less than 2 acre of agricultural land; non-income tax payees; widows, except those who were income tax payees; and physically challenged persons should be considered economically backward.
Urging the commission to include economically weaker sections of the Aggarwal community among the Backward Classes, the sammelan said the reservation in jobs should be confined to one member in a family and should not be extended to the same family or its blood relations again and again.
It further added that if the percentage of various castes getting jobs in Haryana was compared to that in adjoining states like Delhi and UP, a strong bias would be revealed in favour of one particular caste in Haryana. In a separate memorandum submitted by the Haryana Punjabi Mahasabha through its president and general secretary, Ashok Mehta and Surinder Juneja, respectively, it said the Punjabi community was uprooted from Pakistan in 1947. By the dint of its hard work, the community, which constituted about 35 per cent of the state’s population, was able to re-establish itself in new environs in which it found itself. Still many sections of the community remained economically backward and, hence, should be given reservation in jobs and educational institutions.
