    General Knowledge Thread.

Many of us have noticed that aluminium foil or any other metal for that matter sparks in a microwave. Can you tell why? (please refrain from using internet to find the answer - use your own ingenuity )

may be due to polarisation..but not sure..

Microwaves produce a flow of current in foil.it sparks due to polarisation of highly charged particles and a conductor between them(alluminium). if particles(atomes, molecules) not polarised then foil simply burns without sparking..

yahi laga mujhe to isa explanation... phuysics padhe hue 1 decade ho gya.. sahi reason kya hai ye aap bta do..

Metals are good conductors. May be that's why.

Harender jee - you are quite right. Microwave is elctromagnetic radiation that causes electrons in the metal to move and accumulate at the tip of the crumpled aluminium foil. Due to charge accumulation at the tips/high point of the metal, the surrounding air starts sparking. This is my understanding.

    Next question:

Doctors generally prescribe B-Complex vitamin tablets to be taken along with an antibiotic medicine course. What is the need for B-complex vitamin?

Antibiotic kill useful bacteria’s which helps in digestion, B complex helps in growth of useful bacteria’s and improve digestion. That’s why they r given with antibiotics

Vikas jee, absolutely right! Antibiotics kill good bacteria as well. These good bacteria of the gut synthesize B-Complex vitamins. To compensate for the loss of B-Complex, B-complex tablets are recommended.

Vikas jee, the question is related to upset stomach condition (such as bloating, food poisoning etc)- not digestion per se. Think, what would the curd bacteria do?

The dahi bacteria release antimicrobial agents that kill problem causing bacteria.
