    Thumbs up London Olympics

    IOC CODE:- IND
    27 July to 12 August 2012

With London Olympics, the mega sporting event, just round the corner, let us create a platform where we can share info and discuss about it before, during and after the Games.Much to watch out for India in general and Jat community in particular. We are going there with an excellent overall contingent, both quality and quantity wise and lets see how the success of Beijing Olympics has affected our sports and its players and can we go one step further after breaking the jinx.

Let me start out with participation first.Gathered this info from some other source on the net and is nicely compiled.Might not be up to date and might be apocryphal as well. That's where we all have to chip in.

    So LONDON,here we come

marde pattan te haath aunde gabru
mondeya te rakh daanga london jaunde gabru

    Update on Swimming:-

TOI-In an astonishing turn of events late on Friday night, world swimming body FINA awarded Gagan AP Ullalmath of Karnataka a berth in the 1500m freestyle event at the London Olympics under the 'Universality' quota, thereby slamming the door on Virdhawal Khade, Sandeep Sejwal, Aaron D'Souza and Saurabh Sangvekar, who qualified under Olympic Selection Time (OST) criterion or the 'B' standard mark.

Swimming Federation of India's CEO Virendra Nanavati added: "Under the Universality criterion only those swimmers who have not qualified under the 'A' or 'B' category are picked. So even though we might want to send our best swimmer, we are bound by the rules."

Sania was handed a wild card along with veteran Rushmi Chakravarthy while Asian Games gold medallist Somdev Devvarman was given a wild card entry in the men's singles event.
In a compromise formula worked out by AITA, Paes was forced to play with 206-ranked Vishnu Vardhan in the men's doubles event against his wishes and was paired with Sania in the mixed section.
The two wild card entries meant India will be fielding its largest ever tennis contingent in the Olympics.

    Zeenews Sports Bureau
Ending weeks of speculations, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) announced on Sunday that Sushil Kumar would be India’s flag-bearer at the opening ceremony of the London Olympics on July 27.

While Abhinav Bindra was the first choice for IOA, it wasn’t possible with his 10m air rifle event scheduled for July 30. He was reluctant to do the honours for close to six hours as that could lead to some injury ahead of his event.

The association was left with three names: Vijender Singh, Leander Paes and Sushil Kumar. The problem with Vijender was similar to that with Abhinav Bindra, while Paes’ case was different — he had led the Indian contingent in Sydney.
