For this splendid feat, Chaudhary Abhay Singh Chautala deserves congratulations.

It is hoped, like Boxing, all the sports and games would touch newer heights under his able and inspiring leadership.

Sir ji yahan te International Olympic committee IOA/India ne ban karan ne ho rha h ar aap chaudhary sahab ki jeet ke swaad le rhe ho.Waahe baat ho gyi ki ladke aale te baarat ne ulti le jaan ne ho rhe hain ar log udde baith ke keh hain ak bhai laadu te jamaa swaad ke bna raakhe hain.

    NDTV:-

New Delhi: The deadline for the Indian Olympic Association to respond to the International Olympic Committee about their upcoming elections expires today. An IOA delegation comprising Hockey India Secretary General Narendra Batra and lawyer RK Anand is being sent to Lausanne, to meet IOC officials over the weekend. But is it too late now?

Going ahead with the assumption that the IOC does ban India after its Executive Board meeting on the 4th and 5th of December, what is likely to happen to India and its athletes?

For starters, the newly elected IOA officials and the body itself will not be recognised. The IOC may also ask India to remove the word 'Olympic' from IOA.

The athletes can compete under the IOC flag, instead of the Indian flag. This rule though applies only for the Asian Games and the Olympics.

For most other tournaments, like the World Championships, the athletes will be representing India.

"It just goes on to reiterate that in the agenda of things in India, athletes come the last," Olympic gold-winning shooter Abhinav Bindra said.

"If the IOC does de-recognise India, it will of course affect us. There are people who have been warned by the IOC in the past, those people should not contest in polls at all," Mansher Singh said.

South Africa, Afghanistan, Iraq and Kuwait are the countries that have been banned by the IOC in the past. In fact, just like India, Kuwait's government also interfered in its functions, that lead to a 2-year ban.

Can a compromise be arrived at before the IOC's Executive Board meeting? Or will India lose face thanks to the mishandling of the IOA elections?

Please do not go ahead with the assumptions .... Accept the fact that he has been elected Indian Olympic Association President. None can undone it.

Therefore, Y o u can enjoy laddus without any hesitation to celebrate his victory as no rule violation is involved to invite international ban on IOA by the unanimous election of Chaudhary Abhay Singh.

It is very shameful that we have the ilks of Kalmadi and chautala chosen as the head of IOA (and other sport institutions). Are these people any sport persons? Have they played any kind of sport in their lifetime? A politician only knows politics and will apply the same expertise here too doing more harm than good.

Exactly the thought I had in mind. I was surprised at people expressing their jubilation at Chautala's victory. Before simply rejoicing because he's a Jat, we must verify his credentials in Boxing and if indeed the recent success of Haryana's boxers is due to his work. My guess is that it isn't. I havent ever heard his name in the news in relation to Boxing. Most of the Bhiwani boxers are self-made with help from academies of ex-boxers. They have risen by their own talent and courage, with hardly any help from politicians. Politicians only come in later when a boxer has won something, to garner some of the spotlight.

Chautala is simply another politician trying to while away his time when not in power. This leads leads to more harm than good. Almost all sports bodies in India are led by politicians who know little about the game. VK Malhotra leads Archery, Dasmunshi till recently lead Football, Pawar is in BCCI. Needless to say, the dismal state of sports in our country can be attributed to such 'sporty' politicians.

Sports loses to politics as controversial Abhay Chautala set to become IOA president

    Monday, November, 26 2012 - 14:18

CHANDIGARH: With Randhir Singh withdrawing from the contest for the post of the president of the Indian Olympic Association stage is set for the controversial Haryana politician Abhay Chautala to become the IOA president after the elections scheduled to be held on December 5.

However, the elections may not be recognised by the International Olympic Committee since these were not being held according to its guidelines.

This would be the worst tragedy for the Indian sports as a distinguished and qualified sports administrator Randhir Singh had to give up the race against a controversial politician Abhay Chautala, charge-sheeted by the Central Bureau of Investigation and that too without any sports background.

The sports future of the country and its Olympic prospects can well be foreseen with a person like Abhay Chautala being at the helm of affairs. His record happens to be no better than that of his predecessor Suresh Kalmadi, who spent good nine months in jail for corruption charges in regard to preparation for the Commonwealth Games. He has now turned out to be Abhay Chautala’s mentor, although in the past Abhay wanted to contest against him as well.

This can also be judged from the fact that Abhay Chautala’s team in IOA will include Lalit Bhanot and Harish Kumar. Like Kalmadi, both have spent good time in jail for corruption charges. Lalit Bhanot will be his secretary general when Abhay Chautala takes over as the president after the December 5 elections.

Although Randhir Singh has left the race but he has raised some important issues which will need to be addressed and which may go a long way in improving the sports administration across the country. IOA is the apex sports administration governing body in the country.

Randhir Singh has been a six time Olympic trap shooter and an Asian Games gold medallist. He has served as the secretary general of the Indian Olympic Association for last 24 years as also the secretary general of the Olympic Council of Asia, besides being a member of the prestigious and all powerful International Olympic Committee.

Compared to that Abhay Chautala besides his corruption charges apart, has virtually no sports background. Currently he is the Chairman of the Boxing Federation of India, without ever having been into the boxing ring. Moreover, he is not qualified enough (he cannot speak English either) to be able to represent the country in the highest international sports meets.

Abhay Chautala, alongwith his elder brother Ajay Chautala, is currently facing trial in the disproportionate assets case as the CBI has already filed a charge-sheet against them. The CBI, in its charge sheet filed on February 2, 2010, charged him of having assets worth Rs. 8 crore, and another Rs. 125 crore in the names of the Chaudhary Devi Lal Memorial Trust and other multiple societies.

Minor correction please: Mr. Kalmadi was President of Indian Olympic Association and not Mr. Randhir Singh.

No doubt Mr. Randhir Singh is outstanding player.
