According to the news reported by www.tribuneindia.com and The Tribune, Chandigarh, dated 09th December, 2012, p. 24, the Ministry of Human Resource Development yesterday granted in principal approval for setting up Indira Gandhi Centre for Sustainable Development at Somerville College, University of Oxford. The College was the alma mater of the former Prime Minister.


Somerville College is a constituetnt college of University of Oxford. The Indira Gandhi Centre seeks to address key issues of sustainable development.

It is proposed by the Somerville College to the Government of India to contribute around pound 3 million. Somerville College will provide pund 5.5. million to support the centre.

It is hoped this centre will open new vistas in the field of existing knowledge on the issue of sustainable development.
