Thread: Haryana Tasveero Mein (Continued)

Come on, why stifle your voice, do not refrain ...

My take on these money-sink-holes is, may be good for the ego-boost but they are NOT the MOST worthy investment or the most appropriate utilization of the money.

So many Dharamshalas, hardly any one using them, are sheer waste of resources in a poor country like India where people die of the cold wave due to the lack of roof, etc. Sure there is a better utilization e.g. convert them to schools, hospitals, asylums, housing for the homeless and the slum eradication, etc.

Aisa nhi hai ki Indians charity ke liye nhi detey hain, dete hain lekin dharam aur jat ke naam pe charity to build monuments of religion and caste, but COMPARATIVELY they do NOT donate much for the HUMANITARIAN CAUSES that are not directly linked with religion/caste. The sad reality. Better to be a good human than trying to be a good Jat (whatever that may mean e.g. bravado, false castiest pride etc), though both do not have to be mutually exclusive, as one still can be proud of their heritage (jat, etc) without being supremacist. I define supremacist as the attitude of "we are better than other castes, we must hog all the resources, give to our kins only...not all the needy human on the merit regardless of caste/creed/race" etc etc

Seeing the sorry state of the fast vanishing historical monuments and our heritage, I suggest JL members to contact INTACH in HARYANA http://www.intach.org/ch-haryana.asp?links=chapt6 to form local chapters in their cities and villages, and then work with the history dept of the local collages n university to catalogue, document, preserve, excavate, etc as well as lobby with INTACH, ASI and Govt to officially heritage list these monuments.

    1. a centralized list of all the jat dharamshalas around the world, along with contact details
    2. and online reservation, charges, etc ...

Big ask, whats the best way to go about it? a thread? an appeal to dhramshalas to come under a common website, etc? suggestions from all Jat bahis will be welcome
    Friend,
It is very good idea and we would be happy if you start to implement the same in right earnest and that too at your earliest possible.

Undoubtedly it would be a great contribution by you.

    Thanks and regards

This is to share with you that we at Yamunanagar [Haryana] have done documentation of a number of ancient and medieval sites/buildings in association with Lt. Col. Bhatti, the convener of the local chapter of INTACH.

Thanks for the update doc, just wondering whats the current status of the Chhachhrauli fort near Yamuna Nagar?

looking at pics, it looks gorgeous, frescos, ramparts and lot to offer but seems so dilapidated https://www.google.com.sg/search?q=c...tm%3B400%3B207

Is INTACH or your team working/lobbying to have it restored? Give its close proximity to Chandigarh and the airport, best way to go could to have it restored under the supervision of INTACH and converted into a Heritage Hotel on the lines of Neemrana Hotel as well as MICE complex (Meeting, Incentives, Conf and Exhibition) to bring tourists and generate employment while preserving the heritage. Hopefully you could takeup with your INTACH colleagues as well as local ASI.

Here, the woman is making 'sanjhi'. This festival is celebrated with lot of enthusiasm in villages in Haryana. The festival is celebrated during 'navratras'. At the end of the festival, the 'sanjhi' is floated away in the village pond at night along with a diya (light). Boys try to play spoilsport by trying to break the floating sanchi and the women try to save the sanjhi from them.

O really... Im actually surprised with myself that I did not know about it as I have had ample contact with the village during my growing up years. My parental family had Arya Samaj influence, so thats the reason they never practiced and I guess I never visited mama, bua and mausi during navratra so I didnt get to see "sanjhi". I had assumed it must be to do with "hido" the thing kids make with "gobar" and dry it to burn in the Holi fire ... lolz Thanks for enlightening ...cheers! ))))

My knowledge is somewhat limited as my mother (being a village brought up woman) knows the ritual but like many others is weak on questions like 'why is it done a particular way only' or the significance of the occasion. And she happens to be my main source of information on many of these things. I hope some one more knowledgable would pitch in.

    Friend,

Intach has already initiated the process of documentation of the said fort- which is fast dilapidating.

    Thanks and regards
