    Shikhar Dhawan

    What an innings..!

On a side note, is he a jat? I didn't think dhawans are jats. But his nick name is jatt-jee and saw a few articles referring him as a Jat.

Sharda Ugra wrote this on cricinfo:
Dhawan's nickname amongst his peers is Jaat-jee, which comes from his Jaat heritage. The Jaats are a rural north Indian community, concentrated in Haryana and portions of western Uttar Pradesh, surrounding Delhi. Dhawan's distinctive and carefully maintained moustache owes some allegiance to that heritage. As he walked off the field at tea and then at stumps, he twirled his moustache upwards, in a somewhat old-fashioned but instantly-recognisable gesture of bragging-rights ownership. On Saturday, he couldnĀ¹t be denied.

    Gambhir and Bhajji tweeted this:
"Jatt ji (Shikhar Dhawan) proud of u. Well done. Pakdey rehna, chordnaa nahi.
They r down, crush 'em. Make it large Shikhar."

"Very welldone shikhar jaat ji. Top top top batting.really happy for u brother.
hard work always pays off.rab rakha jatta. chardikalla ch raho," Harbhajan
    tweeted.

His nickname is also 'Gabbar'. Does he belong to Amjad Khan?
Actually he is a Punjabi Khatri. His family members were talking on tv. His aunty's name is Aruna Chopra. His friends call him 'Jatt Ji' because of his get up, which is mosly had by the Jats.

Relax - I asked a question as I didn't know. I didn't think he was a jat, but was curious why sharda ugra thought he was one. She is a great journalist.
    And thanks for the info..

I dont think he's a Jat. Seems Sikh Khatri. I remember seeing his marriage pics. He got married in a Gurudwara to a half-Bong, half-Brit girl.

But irrespective of his community, it was a great innings. It was a long time coming as he made his first class debut about 10 years back. Others of his India under-19 class like Raina, Dinesh Karthik have made their international debuts long time back.
    Pagdi Sambhal Jatta..!

He has been very consistent so far. Scored centuries in first two matches of champion trophy and thereafter scored 50's. Don't know why he did not get enough chances earlier to play for India. He is senior of Virat Kohli.
