    A I C T E Power divested to grant approval to MCA/MBA

Private colleges will no longer require permission of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to conduct MBA and MCA courses, ruled the Supreme Court on Thursday......."The bench of Justices BS Chauhan and V Gopala Gowda held that though MCA was a technical course, the AICTE had no business to lay down standards as for this purpose the Parliament had already enacted the UGC Act. Moreover, the role of AICTE was advisory and could only impose uniform standards of education in affiliated members of a university by putting a note to the UGC, the bench said."For full report log :

After going through full details of the Supreme Court verdict,

it would be clear if some other agency has been entrusted the

job to keep a tab on the quality of education imparted by

MCA and MBA running institutes or not. For monitoring the quality

aspect, some sort of check must be there to check mushroom

growth of commercial institutes in the name of professional colleges.

By the time it comes the age for admission to MBA, most of the student's get mature enough to decide whether they should go for these mushroomed colleges or not. With the widespread penetration of internet, students have access to institutes rankings (pagalguy.com is one such source for authentic ranking), and they don't just go by gloomy flashy advertisements and paid magazine rankings.

The demand & supply equation weeds out incompetent colleges and balances it out (market correction).

AICTE is just for namsake, bikau. It keeps giving approval to any new faddu colleges erected by politicians in a fortnight. Market corrections keep these institutes to apply for closure later.Imagining AICTE's role as ensuring quality will be a big joke. Any good institute stands on it's own. only good thing it has ever done is making engg institutes to compulsorily 'Mandatory Disclosures'.

It'll be good however to have a watchdog agency whose primary role should be fee fixation rather (could be possible) + ensuring minimum level of standards (hard to implement, corruption)

We had one Jatlander (Mr. Dhaka in 2005~2006) who used to be in AICTE.

I agree, AICTE or UGC are just name sake but its relevance can not ignored when it comes to differentiation a degree from diploma, specially for undergraduate level.

A lot of second tier colleges, rather no tier colleges like IIPM are looting money because people want a degree but there are not many legitimate avenues for them to earn. A lot of people came to shock when the whole buzz about IIPM not being UGC recognised took place, as if they did not know it earlier. What came out of it is though is yet to be seen but I am sure the kind of population we have in India any college will never run out of students.

However on students being matured to earn MBA is debatable, still people undertake MBA to earn a degree, not to learn.

There will always be a section of <rich> students (boys & girls both) who do MBA just to upgrade their Matrimonial CV + please their parents (peer pressure from family circle).

There will always be much less than average immature students, who are incapable of scoring good entrance test scores, but have deep pockets to do MBA. They don't bother ranking & don't investigate.

IIPM is a perfect example, how govt. machinery is unsuccessful to put a curb on such menace. They never shows/will never show in genuine college rankings. Why i say rich, because poor students won't get education loan in name of IIPM, as AICTE approval is one such pre requisite. I've seen loans being denied to such students.

-UGC keep warning students about IIPM. It's like knowing god don't exist (in temples), but still a section of foolish people will keep thronging to temples & making temples turnovers run into crores.
    - UGC, AICTE is full of bribe seeking corrupt officials..

    Friends,

Both of you are right to point out existence of rich-poor students and 'corruption'

in AICTE/UGC in India, but this differentiation or alleged prevalence of 'corruption'

does not warrant ending the controlling authority. And the Supreme Court has

also struck down unlawful/unconstitutional part of the AICTE Act.

Is it not imperative that instead of ending all supervisory/regulatory

mechanism, they need mending to keep the minimum standard of quality education

in the professional institutes of higher learning.

Or kindly suggest some alternate mechanism to keep these institutions

of higher learning as flag bearers of the quality education, which is the

need of the hour to meet the industry/trade/commerce needs in this

age of tough competition, globalisation and open economy and

    scarce opportunity for the mediocres.

    Rajpalji,

you are also very much right to start the thread.

Question: Suggest to whom? I don't think AICTE officials/upcoming principals/owners of new institutes keep a regular check on jatland to note down suggestions for implementation.

Or Kindly bring in some senior official from AICTE who has the power of authority & responsibility to take forward the suggestions. I will be more then happy to provide suggestions, only if the time spent translates into a meaningful actualisation.

Again thanks for your comments, Friend. If it does not look worthwhile to discuss the issue here, it is ok.

The suggestions on public domains are definitely taken note of by the concerned authorities. It is other thing whether they are applied or not !

However, if someone is interested in suggesting something to raise the standard of and quality of education, he can interact with concerned authorities: log. www.ugc.ac.in or HRD Ministry website too.

    Thanks and regards.

    Rajpalji,

It's very nice of you discovering out the website of UGC. I checked 'contact us', but it has the email id of only webmaster : webmaster@ugc.ac.in

seems, they also don't want us to write them suggestions.

No, i don't like to shoot mail to any random irrelevant mail id. None of the link specifies the right person to talk to.

It'll be like writing a mail to narcotics, cbi, anti terrorism, economic offenses wing, nsg, home ministry & expecting a reply, for a reason, let's say wanting to know whom to speak to when a particular police station is not helping you in lodging a FIR.
