What benefit would we derive by doing so !!

    1. A minor enquiry: is this right to equate the two: शहीद - बलिदान

Balidaan is synonymous of SAHAADAT not Shahid

    2. Let Hindi grow into national language by adopting words from other languages and then become an international language as English has been trying to grow into international language for long by adopting words from languages around the globe. There seems no apparent harm in using the words of other languages in Hindi too as they convey direct meaning in Hindi. If, for example, we take ordinary words of English like Station or Signal every person whether educated or not will understand them and if we replace them with Hindi words, perhaps, it would be difficult for a common citizen to understand.

    Thanks.

If only there was a pill to cure ignorance and bigotry.

Urdu is an Indian language, born in the cantonments towns of North India during the medieval period when speakers of Sanskrit derived languages mixed with Persian and Turkish speakers. Along with its sister language Hindi, it falls under Hindustani, the superset of North Indian languages.

We Indians have this penchant for foreign/imported stuff. Something similar to 'Ghar ki murgi daal barabar'.

No doubt Urdu is a rich language having a rich past and possibly originated/evolved in India. However, the use of a new language does not mean that we bring into disuse our own language be it Haryanvi or Hindi. For example if you use the following words in sentences, people today will actually look at you in astonishment as if you have come from the planet Mars:

    1. "Yeh kathin karya hae" - This is a tough job. Instead it is okay to say - "Yeh kaam mushkil hae"
    2. "Usne us karyakram mein bhag liya" - He participated in that programme. Instead it is okay to say - "Usne us jalse mein shirkat ki".
    3. Dwaar dhaal dijiye" - Please close the door. Instead it is okay to say - "Darwaza band kar dijiye"
    4. "Shristi saundarya se paripurna hae" - The Universe/nature is beautiful. Instead it is okay to say - "Yeh kayanat bhaut haseen hae".
    5. "prabhu ke ashirwaad se" - with the grace of God. Instead it has now become fashionable to say - "Insha Allah" - I have till date seen no one from the so called minorities say "Agar bhagwan/prabhu ne chaha toh".

Day in and day out the media is increasingly bombarding the citizens with heavy duty Urdu words which are gradually replacing the Hindi words which were in everyday use earlier. No harm in the use of Urdu words - but for God's sake:

    1. Be honest and courageous to call it Urdu music, Urdu movies and Urdu news instead of Hindi music, movies and news when hardly any Hindi word is being used in them.
    2. Respect and preserve your own language by not replacing it with any other language. Knowing more languages and respecting those is good but in the process do not lose/forget your own. Best examples are the Chinese, French, Germans, Russians etc who are fiercely protective about their language and culture.

Also let us be very clear that by using and preserving your own language, you are not disrespecting others as some would like to believe and argue on.

Also there are various references in the texts of the mughal era where the speakers of Urdu language looked down upon speakers of Haryanvi/local dialects and in their arrogance instead of acknowledging the fact that Pali and other languages of the natives were the starting points for Hindustani have spread misinformation that Haryanvi/other dialects (spoken by the illiterate/uneducated/ less cultured) originated from distasteful transformation of Hindustani/Urdu/Hindi.

Just like English language imports words from other languages, why Hindi can not import words from Urdu or any other languages, what is wrong in that. Dular bhai why you want to stop the progress of Hindi language ?
These urdu words you mentioned above are Hindi words now.

Language is a fluid concept. Its important for the growth of every language to continually evolve by accepting new speakers and incorporating new loan words.

The thing is Urdu and Hindi are virtually indistinguishable from each other apart from a few words. In all, most of the words of the both are the same. Many Hindi words that we use commonly are Persian in origin and hence closer to Urdu. But we don't realize it and there's actually no harm in it.

And could you point out texts where 'Urdu' speakers looked down upon the Hindi speakers? In fact the elite language in Mughal times was Persian or Farsi as we know it and both Urdu/Hindi were languages of the common people. So there's hardly a possibility of Urdu speakers looking down upon the Hindi speakers.

I would disagree on that. Hindi has (or rather had) more affinity with Sanskrit than with Urdu. Over the past few decades more and more Urdu words have come to be incorporated in the So-called present day HINDI. It would be more appropriate to call it (Hindi news, movies, songs) Urdu rather than Hindi.

I agree that language is a fluid concept, but to preserve it is the responsibility of the native speakers. I only hope that Hindi does not go the SANSKRIT way through disuse or amalgamation.

As far as references are concerned, you can sift through texts of mughal era court recordings and commentaries on them by contemporary historians.

Urdu was developed when foreign rulers felt the need to interact with local population. So a language developed which has lot of Persian and Arabic word and which was written with Persian/Arabic alphabets. As this was spoken by kings and their army and hence was named Urdu which is a Turkish word. Persian was considered as a language of rulers and intellects. Later Urdu written in Persian style became the language of courts and govt. Muslims immigrants found it easier to converse in this. Later Britishers used this as a official language. Then to create disharmony we were taught Urdu is a language of Muslims and our language is hindi. Main diff of Urdu and hindi is the script in which they are written otherwise a highly persianised hindi is Urdu.

    Rajpal ji,

Aisa lagta hai ki aap Hindu-Muslim dushman waali saazish ka shikaar ho gaye hain. Hindi bhasa to azzadi ke baad alag se apnayi gayi. Warna to azadi se pehle Hindustani bhasa hoti thi. Jiska matlab Hindi-Urdu tha. Pakistan koi pehle doosra desh nahi tha. Wo bhi bharat ka hi hissa tha aur wo bhi apne hi log hain! Azadi se pehle kuch asamazik tatvon ne apni mehatvakansaon ko poora karne ke liye ye Hindi-Urdu waali saazish rachi. Kripya karke aap is saazish ka shikar na hovein. Uttri bharat(jisme Pakistan bhi shammil hai) ek hi hai, jahan tak pehnava, boli ya phir sanskriti ka saval hai.

Meri nazar mein to urdu muhabbat ka hai naam, ishq ka aman ka mehro murawwat ka hai naam, takht e daar pe bhi hak o sadaaqat ka hai naam, maera urdu ko salaam hai, badnaam nahi, fark sirf itna hai ke ab aam ye zubaan nahin.
Urdu ke istemaal pe ikhtelaaf rakhne waale khwaaten-o-hazraat ye zehan mein rakhen ki urdu se mithi koi zubaan nahin, urdu ke labzon ka koi muqaab la nahin, urdu mein guftgu karna hamara haq hai aur insha allah iska parcham buland rahega.
Urdu hamare aaj aur hamare kal ke darmiyan ek dor hai jo kabhi bhi nahin toot sakti.
Jise urdu nahin aati,wo la-ilmi ka izhaar kare aur is zubaan ko seekhne ki jud-o-jehad kare. Na istemaal ki taakeed na gwaar hai. Urdu zindabbad, paindabaad.

Hum bolte hon koi zubaan,kabil-e-kirdaar to hain
hum sana khane sahe,haider-e-qarraar to hain,
naam lewan hain urdu ke,parrastaar to hain,
yaani majboor paye ahmed-e-mukhtaar to hain,
ishq ho jaye kisi se,koi chaara to nahin,
saif chand hazraaton ka urdu pe ijaara to nahin.

It seems the only agenda of a few members is to criticize whatever you write. Whatever you write is 'Namakool' to them.

In this thread you have nowhere mentioned that Urdu is not a good language. Your only contention and rightly so was that we should preserve our own language.

However, people (especially those who love to oppose you) have twisted your contention and interpreted it according to their convenience that Urdu is not a good language and hence, it should not be spoken.

Why cannot Hindi be just spoken as Hindi (unadulterated with any other language)?

We Indians will always be Indians. Ourselves being Indian breed, we prefer to keep pets which are foreign breed.
