The climatic changes seems to have led to change in timings of seasonal rains.

This year this change has caused immense loss to crops in different states of India and floods causing havoc in J and K.

This change in weather cycle seems wide spread as fury of floods have increased everywhere.

It is time for all the nations to take remedial steps to stop climatic degradation by agreeing not to pollute mother earth anymore.

Indian NGO groups can learn a lesson or two from the following incident which involves open challenge to the Government decision allotment to Adani Group of India. An Extract from the Tribune link http://www.tribuneindia.com/news/world/australian-green-lobby-drags-adani-group-to-court/60896.html

An Australian environmental lobby on Tuesday dragged Adani group in the land court of Queensland, objecting to the Indian mining giant's 16.5 billion dollars Carmichael Coal mine project in the coal-rich state on the ground that it would endanger biodiversity in the region.
"Adani's mine will be the third biggest coal mine in the world. It will emit more carbon pollution and will warm the world more than any other proposed development," Coast and Country's Derec Davies said today after launching a five week legal action objecting to the project."This case will draw on testimonies from water experts, climate and marine scientists, economists and financial experts and our case will demonstrate that this poses unacceptable risks. We will demonstrate that this dangerous mine should not be approved and that Adani should not be allowed to operate in Queensland," Davies said.

Sea-level rise is accelerating, not declining as some have hoped, scientists said today citing melt water from Earth's ice sheets as the likely cause.

In 2013, the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) said the global mean sea level rose by 19 centimetres (7.6 inches) from 1901-2010, an average 1.7 mm (0.06 of an inch) per year.

This accelerated to 3.2 mm per year between 1993 and 2010, the IPCC said in its landmark Fifth Assessment Report.

But in 2014, another study raised a big question.

In the past decade, it said, sea-level rise had been much lower than the previous decade. That raised hopes in some quarters that, far from being an inexorably rising threat, sea levels could fluctuate in response to some hidden but natural variability.

The new study deals a blow to this scenario.

Both the IPCC estimate and the 2014 paper were based on satellite observations of sea levels.

But they were unable to take an important variable into account: something called vertical land motion.

This is natural movement in the height of the Earth's land surface, which can happen through subsidence, earthquakes or uplift. For instance, parts of the northern hemisphere are still rising after the end of the last Ice Age, the land was crushed by glacial weight and even today is slowly "rebounding," thousands of years after the ice melted.

UK, US main barriers to addressing climate change

They're the two biggest emitters of greenhouse gases in the world but the US and China have very different ideas about tackling the problem of climate change.

In a new survey taken months before officials meet for perhaps the most significant climate-change talks ever held, YouGov found that people in the US and UK lag far behind countries including China in wanting those talks to produce a meaningful commitment to address climate change.

In December, international representatives will meet in Paris to discuss an international agreement that some think could be humanity's last chance to limit the terrible effects climate change could have on the world and its population. But much of the US and the UK don't want their governments to do anything at all.

Delhi is the most polluted city among 1,600 cities globally, according to the World Health Organization's (WHO) urban air quality index released in 2014.

Almost every winter, the PM 2.5 (fine, respirable pollution particles that are so dangerous that they can get lodged in your lungs and enter your bloodstream) count has been several times the safe standard. Even in summer, our lungs choke on Ozone, a highly hazardous gas that can trigger severe asthma attacks.

Join Tree Plantation Drive at Delhi today.

As Sunday dawns, TOI Green Drive will reach its ultimate objective: the planting of one lakh saplings at Tilpath Valley near Sainik Farms, south Delhi. All these saplings of native Aravali species will be planted by thousands.

These will grow up in the years to come to create not just a pollution sink for Delhi but also a conservation space for Delhi's lost biodiversity. All are welcome to join the drive that will be carried out between 7am and 4pm.

India on Monday appealed to countries across the globe to include a debate on "lifestyles" while arriving at a climate deal when they assemble in Paris later this year. This followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech last week when he sought to change the discourse on the issue from "climate change to climate justice".

India also hit out at rich nations for their extravagant consumption and asked them to seriously look at the needs of developing and poor countries which have a right to emerge out of poverty.

    Climate change action
    India''s plan ambitious and challenging

Decades of negotiations later, who bears the blame and the bill remains at the centre of the global fight against climate change. An agreeable middle ground is what the Paris summit seeks to achieve in a few months from now. While standing up to the developed world's pressure to do more, emerging economies like India continue to fall back upon claims of a relatively lesser contribution to climate change and the urgent need for development. India has climbed up several notches in the list of worst polluters, so the fundamental defence is fast losing ground. Growth at the cost of rampant environmental loss too deserves a serious policy relook. Conversely, the country's Intended Nationally Determined Contributions towards a post-2020 international pact invoke Mahatma Gandhi's message of human beings acting as trustees of natural resources.

Since the topic is of utmost importance remaining part of the editorial is given below :

New Delhi’s climate action plan for 2030 pledges energy efficiency. India is banking on a reduction in emissions intensity, or emissions per unit of GDP, increasing the forest cover, and a larger role for renewable energy in power generation. The target of 33-35 per cent reduction in emission intensity in 15 years builds on the goal India had set for itself in 2009. That commitment of a 20-25 per cent cut by 2020 at 2005 levels is achievable. The next step is difficult, after the success of basic measures such as the shift to CFL bulbs and LED lights. The industry now has to step in and take a hit. That is a challenging task, made clear by the government's admission that while it is ready for cleaner Euro 6 emission standards for vehicles, the industry is not considering the cost.

The plan lists a tree fund for companies setting up projects on forest land, along with highway tree-lines. The hitch is that

afforestation has limited utility; natural dense forests have the real ability to be carbon sinks. The third target is a huge jump

in the share of non-fossil fuel in power generation by 2030. An ambitious task, but achievable. The estimated bill for such

climate changes actions is $2.5 trillion. Now that is truly ambitious.

Claiming that the current information dissemination system was "unreliable", GreenpeaceIndia today urged the government to make improvements to the National Air Quality Index (NAQI).With Delhi faring poor in the air quality ranking, the NGO organised an event at the Dilli Haat here to inform people about the need to protect them from air pollution and to gather people's support. It was part of a clean air nation campaign.

The volunteers through interactive activities approached and informed Delhities about the threat of air pollution and relevant precautionary measures to be taken to fight this menace."The existing lack of information on air quality and precautionary measures may put hundreds of people's health including children and elderly at risk. People do not feel threatened by air pollution because they cannot feel the immediate health impacts."Government has good intentions behind setting up the National Air Quality monitoring index but the process is incomplete till people are aware and are ensuring precautionary measures like wearing masks on heavy pollution day", said Ruth D'Costa, Public Engagement Campaigner, Greenpeace India.

The NGO noted that although Delhi has become the face of air pollution, the problem exists across the country and a recent status check on NAQI1 implementation by Greenpeace found discrepancies in the investment in infrastructure.

The havoc being caused in Tamilnadu in recent couple of weeks by heavy rains and floods sends an emergency alert to all not to play with nature in unnatural way.

The warning is clear : Save natural balance if you want to save mankind !

Developed countries are no preaching developing countries about climate change. What about the damage they have done while going through development. Who is going to pay for that? Whats the carbon tax for those countries. Developing countries will have a bigger trouble in growing further in the absence of clean energy solution. Solar Power is expensive and other renewable power sources are not going to meet the energy meets for countries like India. So developing countries must form a panel to not let developed countries take the biased advantage.
