Out of ten points to be implemented for controlling air pollution in Delhi, the odd and even number vehicles plying is going to be first tested for some time and then if found suitable will be implemented permanently. Let us hope that the people will get some relief from the pollution in Delhi if the government remains firm in their resolve to implement the planned points in toto !

Another welcome measure to give relief to victims of polluted Delhi Air. Read the news Extract :

''The National Green Tribunal on Friday struck a death blow to cars running on diesel in Delhi when it issued specific orders that diesel-run vehicles will not be registered in Delhi. At the same time, it also said in its order that there will be no renewal of registration of diesel vehicles that are more than 10-years-old. It also asked the Centre and Delhi government to refrain from buying diesel cars for their departments.
The NGT's orders come close on the heels of the Delhi government revelation of its proposed odd-even formula for vehicles and on the same day that the Supreme Court admitted a plea to ban diesel vehicles in Delhi and other cities.''

Yes your worry is right as the problem is not being tackled with serious that it requires to be handled with on priority basis.

Cleansing of Rivers and mandatory use of CNG in Delhi in some categories of vehicles are the right steps which need to be implemented gradually throughout India. It will definitely minimise the polltion level to some extent.

The problem seems to be with government machinery at state and central levels due to reservation systems, corruption, etc.

Well rivers are finishing one by one by indiscriminate development/colonization of farm land. The so called progress is too fast for nature to handle. We have seen what happened to Chennai in recent floods.

You are right that rivers are drying up due to greed of man. Take the case of Yamuna river where even National Green Tribunal has failed to rouse the needed efforts from the concerned States' authorities to action even after one year of issuing directions.

One year is gone since India's top green court laid out a first-of-its kind roadmap for a clutch of authorities to revive the dirty and shallow Yamuna in Delhi, but there is zero progress on the surface. The National Green Tribunal (NGT) in January 2015 ordered that its "Maili se Nirmal Yamuna Rejuvenation Project, prepared with months of hard work by some of India's top experts, be completed by 2017. Nothing has moved. And the decades old sad story continues: the river does not look like being revived - even remotely - in any foreseeable future......Shashi Shekhar, head of a highpowered panel formed by the NGT to monitor the clean-up plan, said, "It was a golden opportunity for the governments of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. They have failed in their duties. There is almost negligible progress on the ground."Shekhar, who is also Union water resources secretary, says despite several reminders from him, the Delhi government is yet to send its proposal for funds on an annuity model. "This is the only mechanism that would result in real and long term action," he said.

I do not see any solution to this crisis with current political systems and thought processes.

    North-west India climate change

North west India might have difficult times as Himalayan ecosystem is destroyed and resources from Himalaya plundered at relentless rate for concretization and infrastructure development. A large portion of rain in northwestern region of India depends on Himalaya and its ecosystem. Himalaya and its ecosystem is already facing problem due to rapid urbanization and natural resource utilization.

    Fresh air

When was the last time people of polluted cities in India felt the cool air inside their lungs?

  12. #52
Northwest India is also having vanishing river systems.

    River Hindon is heavily polluted.
    River Yamuna is heavily polluted.
    Next is River Ganga.

    Indian drought condition\economy

Several states in India are having droughts due to change in global weather patterns. This combined with unstoppable exploitation of Himalayas and blind religious following is going to create a devastating situation. Indian can not compete with China interms of its ability to do business at world stage, agriculture is going to fail, crops will fail. Politicians might show glamorous picture of future India but none of this is going to hold true.

    Then what?

Indian political scenario will make the things worse. Heavily populated states will be the worst hit. Religious following will make create more problems and no solutions to the problems. Political parties and their following will not be able to do perform.

Maddhan Sir, The climatic change is not purely an Indian problem. Rather world wide voices are being raised against this problem as it is going to cause major problems in multiple fields leading to increase in the number of poverty stricken people through the world. Kindly read the following world bank plan report on the issue for your ready reference :

"Washington, April 8: The World Bank has announced its plan to help developing countries add 30 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy to the world's energy capacity and to mobilise $25 billion in private financing for clean energy by 2020.

The Climate Change Action Plan, released by the Washington-based lender on Thursday, is designed to help countries meet their Paris COP21 pledges and manage increasing climate impacts, Xinhua news agency reported.

Under the plan, the World Bank will quadruple funding for climate-resilient transport, integrate climate into urban planning through the Global Platform for Sustainable Cities, and boost assistance for sustainable forest and fisheries management.

According to the World Bank, climate change threatens to drive 100 million more people into poverty in the next 15 years.

'Following the Paris climate agreement, we must now take bold action to protect our planet for future generations,' said World Bank Group president Jim Yong Kim.

In Indian context,,, the entire system seems to incapable of handling the issue. The political thought process and lower level of political system seems to have adverse impact on climate related issues.

Besides climate change, India is heading for even a greater disaster of ground water becoming contaminated. This contamination of ground water can happen for several hundreds of kilometers or rather from the source of the ground water its entire length. This can lead to barren farm lands and conversion of entire eco systems to a desert. This ecosystem also includes river.

Dredging of river area's, wetlands, removal of upper soil of earth is going to create a situation, where the food will be heavily poisoned by adulterants and soil will loose all of its fertility to grow any food.
