Progressive winds of change in Tradtion bound Jat Society

Tradition bound Jat society has taken up to change itself with the changing times in its intra caste and inter caste relations as is manifested by the lead taken by Satrol Khap Panchayat in its recent two meetings held in Hisar and Narnaund. In the first meeting social restrictions in the Khap area 42 villages were redefined and the community men living in the region were allowed to celebrate mutual matrimonial relations except between the same gotra and the gotra of the mother; as well same village and villages with common boundaries/ borders/ neighbourhood were to be avoided. Likewise, inter-caste marriages were also openly given support.

Yesterday in its meeting at Narnaund, another two decisions of far reaching importance were taken according to which Women Wing and Youth Wing were organised by appointing their respective presidents. They were asked to spread awareness among the people about the need of knowing the traditions, culture and way of life of the community and involve the youth and women more actively in the day to day decision making for the welfare of the Jats.

This seems to be a very progressive and timely step paving way for beginning of a new era in the history of the community.

But much bigger path has to be covered if the community has to rise to become equal participants in all the fields of life like economy, polity, science, art, culture and so on.

The views of the participants in the discussion are solicited about what more steps could be initiated by the voluntarily working social organisations to make the community fit for taking their active role in the modern day world activities.

I am not aware about it.

If we go by media reports, there was no mention of the gotra of grandmother in the said Satrol Khap Panchayats.

    Friend,

    One's thinking will not do.

If you have solid evidence, then post proof; otherwise we must avoid spread of disinformation on such an emotive issue involving the community as a whole.

    Thanks

Jat women including women from other communities keep their face covered by observing Ghoonghat or Veil.

Now a new lead has been allotted to a woman representative to participate in the management of Khap affairs at equal footing with men.

It is expected that she would initiate steps to make women aware about the need of stopping the observance of this outdated Ghoonghat system.

Yes, You are right Krishna, it was announced by Gathwala Khap that if grandmother is not alive, then her gotra can be considered for the marriage of her grandchildren.

One who doesn't know own roots and culture, their social identity is like a letter without address and they are culturally slave to philosophies of others.

Reunion of Haryana state of pre-1857 is the best way possible to get Jats united.
