Tradition bound Jat society has taken up to change itself with the changing times in its intra caste and inter caste relations as is manifested by the lead taken by Satrol Khap Panchayat in its recent two meetings held in Hisar and Narnaund. In the first meeting social restrictions in the Khap area 42 villages were redefined and the community men living in the region were allowed to celebrate mutual matrimonial relations except between the same gotra and the gotra of the mother; as well same village and villages with common boundaries/ borders/ neighbourhood were to be avoided. Likewise, inter-caste marriages were also openly given support.
Yesterday in its meeting at Narnaund, another two decisions of far reaching importance were taken according to which Women Wing and Youth Wing were organised by appointing their respective presidents. They were asked to spread awareness among the people about the need of knowing the traditions, culture and way of life of the community and involve the youth and women more actively in the day to day decision making for the welfare of the Jats.
This seems to be a very progressive and timely step paving way for beginning of a new era in the history of the community.
But much bigger path has to be covered if the community has to rise to become equal participants in all the fields of life like economy, polity, science, art, culture and so on.
The views of the participants in the discussion are solicited about what more steps could be initiated by the voluntarily working social organisations to make the community fit for taking their active role in the modern day world activities.
