Progressive winds of change in Tradtion bound Jat Society

Tradition bound Jat society has taken up to change itself with the changing times in its intra caste and inter caste relations as is manifested by the lead taken by Satrol Khap Panchayat in its recent two meetings held in Hisar and Narnaund. In the first meeting social restrictions in the Khap area 42 villages were redefined and the community men living in the region were allowed to celebrate mutual matrimonial relations except between the same gotra and the gotra of the mother; as well same village and villages with common boundaries/ borders/ neighbourhood were to be avoided. Likewise, inter-caste marriages were also openly given support.

Yesterday in its meeting at Narnaund, another two decisions of far reaching importance were taken according to which Women Wing and Youth Wing were organised by appointing their respective presidents. They were asked to spread awareness among the people about the need of knowing the traditions, culture and way of life of the community and involve the youth and women more actively in the day to day decision making for the welfare of the Jats.

This seems to be a very progressive and timely step paving way for beginning of a new era in the history of the community.

But much bigger path has to be covered if the community has to rise to become equal participants in all the fields of life like economy, polity, science, art, culture and so on.

The views of the participants in the discussion are solicited about what more steps could be initiated by the voluntarily working social organisations to make the community fit for taking their active role in the modern day world activities.

I am not aware about it.

If we go by media reports, there was no mention of the gotra of grandmother in the said Satrol Khap Panchayats.

    Friend,

    One's thinking will not do.

If you have solid evidence, then post proof; otherwise we must avoid spread of disinformation on such an emotive issue involving the community as a whole.

    Thanks

Jat women including women from other communities keep their face covered by observing Ghoonghat or Veil.

Now a new lead has been allotted to a woman representative to participate in the management of Khap affairs at equal footing with men.

It is expected that she would initiate steps to make women aware about the need of stopping the observance of this outdated Ghoonghat system.

One who doesn't know own roots and culture, their social identity is like a letter without address and they are culturally slave to philosophies of others.

Reunion of Haryana state of pre-1857 is the best way possible to get Jats united.

Keeping in view the progressive views and significance of the decision satrol Khap to involve women in decision making, the full text of the link -- http://www.tribuneindia.com/2014/201...haryana.htm#12 , for maximum circulation among the people, it is reproduced below, of course with due acknowledgement to The Tribune:

Khap leaders who used to come up with bizarre ideas as a solution to rape now have to face a strong dissenting voice from within on these issues. These leaders had suggested banning girls from wearing jeans, keeping off mobile phones from the girls and even to lower their marriageable age as steps to prevent rapes.
Sudesh Chaudhary (35), who now heads the women’s wing of the Satrol khap, vehemently supports wearing jeans, carrying mobile phone and education to girls instead of lowering their marriageable age. The Satrol khap had recently taken a historic decision to allow inter-village marriages within 42 villages of the khap by breaking away from the 700-year-old tradition.
“Stop preaching such things. Nobody has taken such suggestions seriously. It will be better to become carrier of social reforms instead of talking trash,” said Sudesh, who is studying law after completing MA and BEd. She strongly pitches for the social rights of the girls and vows to take up women-related issues at every social platform.
“These absurd demands are reflective of old patriarchal mindset in society which are no longer relevant. We, too, have the right to wear clothes as per our comforts. Mobile phone is not only a necessity but also a tool of empowerment as we get connected to the world via social media like Facebook and Twitter,” she told The Tribune.
“The attire of women has evolved from ‘ghaghra’ to jeans. It is a generational shift and there is no cultural conflict in it,” she said and added that instead of talking about lowering the marriageable age of girls, people should press for providing higher education to them.
As a khap leader, Sudesh has her task cut out as she gears up to embark on a special campaign to get along more women by holding interactive sessions across 42 villages of the Satrol khap in the Narnaund block of the district. “The women wing is here to lend a voice to the women issues in the rural areas of the state in their own language as they are hardly given a chance to express themselves. I am getting overwhelming response from society and media so I need to settle down a bit to launch the campaign,” she said.
She said spreading awareness on women’s health was an issue of foremost importance in the rural areas. “We are planning to hold medical check-up camps during the campaign. We will also seek feedback from them about their needs and requirements,” she said.
Born in Badli village of Jhajjar district, she was married in Jamni Khera village of Hisar district. She started taking part in social activities while becoming an active member of a political party after her marriage.

These are taken with a view of skewed sex ratio in haryana. A welcome move if it is applied in a constructive manner. Preference of male child is still prevalent in society but I have never seen any kinda baisness in our community. Infact girl childs are nourished in a better manner in our community. I guess the attire one chose to wear is an individual's choice making that an issue is not good. Women education, female foeticide etc should be taken at priority.

its actually very shameful for all the jat males
if we would have been more practical in our thoughts women wont be having any need to come forward for there rights and freedom.its shameful that we dont understand needs and hidden feelings of women of our community.its very good for women to come forward for there rights but shows negligence and unemotional character of jat men.this is just the starting and i am sure there are more serious problem faced by jatnis

In Village Pitampura in Sonepat district villagers were witness to a unique treat as a couple celebrated the birth of their third girl child by beating the plate - thali bajana - worshipping the well - Kuan Pujan - and distributing sweets.

This shows the rural society including therein Jats and also other communities are fast changing their tradition bound mind set to progressive one.

in the above context i would like to share the trends in my place .now a days its in fashion and considered a nobel gesture to "beat the plate" when a girl child is born .it is directly related to the related families financial soundness and intelectual level and is not at all rare(in nagaur and jodhpur).
