    Duties and Responsibilities :
    A cook’s major responsibility is to prepare food, help the kitchen workers in the preparation of food items and set up allocated stations for menu, as instructed and compliant with standards. The following list summarise of some of the duties and responsibilities of a cook:
    (a) Undertake menu planning in consultation with the Manager Guest House.
    (b) Oversee and participate in the preparation and cooking and serving of main meals, snacks, cakes etc. in accordance with specified menus.
    (c) Ensure menus are displayed.
    (d) Determine quantities to be cooked and size of portions to be served, taking into account diets to meet medical, ethnic and personal needs.
    (e) Check quantity and quality of stock received and notify suppliers of deficiencies.
    (f) Oversee washing and cleaning of floors, crockery, utensils, work surfaces and other kitchen equipment to ensure that the necessary hygiene and health and safety standards and maintained in the kitchen and dining room as appropriate.
    (g) Ensure that the appropriate clothing, including head wear, is worn at all times in accordance with the guidelines.
    (h) Act as Supervisor to the Kitchen Staff Team on shift.
    (i) To undertake such other duties as may be determined from time to time within the general scope of the post and to be aware that social activities connected with the home may require voluntary work attendance outside normal working hours.
    (j) Prepare a variety of foods; meat, seafood, poultry, vegetable and cold food items.
    (k) Observe and test foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently, using methods such as tasting, smelling, or piercing them with utensils.
    (l) Substitute for or assist cooks during emergencies or rush periods. Bake, roast, broil and steam meats, fish, vegetables and other foods.
    (m) Wash, peel, cut, and seed fruits and vegetables to prepare them for consumption.
    (n) Estimate expected food consumption; then requisition or purchase supplies, or procure food from storage.
    (o) Coordinate and supervise work of kitchen staff.
