Food for thought/ Political parties/ wrong statements

Why do all political parties promise voters that they will be given free water, free electricity, housing at every place and for everyone, so on, so forth.

Mindset ; Free me poision bhi mile janta le legi, kya pta kab bura vichar mann me aye aur jarurat padh jaye. Apart from political parties, people of India should figure what actually they need.
-- Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.
-- When you talk, you are only repeating what you already know. But if you listen, you may learn something new.

There could be many reasons for the above, including that of social upliftment and changing people's behavior for more efficient use of resources.

Free is good for the economy, social development and environment if the free-policies are framed and executed well. To illustrate this let's take an example, let's say the government is providing free electricity to every household upto 40 units/month. After 40/units, let us say, the rate is 1.2 times the normal charge.

In this example, more people would legalize their connections, not only because they would notlike to pay someone for maintaining the illegal connection, but also due to upliftment of their own moral status and by doing away with the fear associated with illegal connections.

Also, people would use energy saving devices and would cut of the consumption. This would reduce the energy wastage and enhance overall efficiency and thus reduce imports of crude oil and coal.

Similar example could be given for other resources.
