Welcome news : Early Arrival of Monsoon

New Delhi, Jun 26: Moving at a brisk pace, the Southwest Monsoon on Friday covered the entire length and breadth of the country, way ahead of schedule in a year in which there is a deficit rainfall forecast for India."The Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into remaining parts of West Rajasthan. Thus, it has covered the entire country today, June 26, 2015," the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its bulletin. The normal date for the monsoon to cover entire India is July 15."The Southwest Monsoon has covered the entire country. Even the last post of West Rajasthan has been covered entirely. "In fact, monsoon onset over the region usually happens around July 15, but some good rains in the last 24 hours has led to the declaration of monsoon over West Rajasthan," added Skymet, a private forecasting agency. The monsoon made a late entry this year as it hit the Kerala coast on June 5 -- a delay of four days from its normal onset date. However, it made speedy progress and has covered the entire country in some 21 days. Incidentally, IMD has predicted "deficient" rainfall this year.Meanwhile, Laxman Singh Rathode, the Director General of IMD, said that in 2013, too, the monsoon had covered the entire country before schedule. So far, from June 1 onwards, the country has received 28 per cent more rain than its normal limit. For the first time in the season, northwest India has recorded 27 per cent more precipitation than normal while central India has so far received 55 per cent more rainfall. The southern peninsula has witnessed 30 per cent more rain than what it usually receives. Eastern and northeastern India received 3 per cent more rainfall than the normal.Over the past 24 hours, northwest India has received 469 per cent more rain. While the normal rainfall is 3.2-mm, the region received showers measuring 18.2-mm.Jammu and Kashmir received a whopping 1,324 per cent more rainfall as the state measured 34.2-mm rainfall in the last 24 hours as against a normal limit of 2.4 mm. East Rajasthan, where the normal precipitation is 2.6-mm, received 24.6-mm rainfall, marking a 846 per cent increase.Gujarat region saw 635 per cent more rain while showers were 812 per cent more than the normal in Saurashtra and Kutch.PTISource: www.oneindia.com

And, who did President Kalam invite as the "presidential guests" to Kerala's Raj Bhavan during his first visit to the state after becoming the President? A roadside cobbler and owner of a very small hotel.

High State of Medical Sciences in Egypt 3500 years Ago

Researchers studying two ancient Egyptian mummies, dating back to some 3,500 years, have found that they were embalmed with unusual recipes whose components had anti-bacterial and anti-insecticidal properties. Researchers investigated the 18th Dynasty mummies of the royal architect Kha and his wife Merit, a couple who were believed to have undergone a short and poor mummification despite their relative wealth at death.Their internal organs had not been removed and placed in canopic jars, as generally occurs in classical royal 18th Dynasty artificial mummification.

But all internal organs - brain, thoracic and abdominal organs, eyeballs as well as ocular muscles and nerves were in excellent state of preservation after some 3,500 years.

"Both individuals underwent a relatively high quality of mummification, fundamentally contradicting previous understanding," researchers said in the journal PLOS ONE.

"Elucidated 'recipes,' whose components had anti-bacterial and anti-insecticidal properties, were used to treat their bodies," the researchers added.

The tomb of Kha and Merit was discovered by the Italian Egyptologist Ernesto Schiaparelli in 1906 on the cliffs surrounding the ancient village of Deir el-Medina.

The researchers used new generation X-ray imaging and chemical microanalyses to better understand the type of mummification used to embalm the couple.

Besides the presence of the internal organs, X-rays showed that both mummies were richly decorated with jewellery, with Kha wearing funerary amulets."They were mummified using a natron salt solution, as were the royals in the 18th Dynasty, but unlike the wealthier royals, their internal organs were not removed," Stephen Buckley, an archeological chemist at the University of York in England, told 'Discovery News'. Kha's external wrappings showed the presence of animal fat/plant oil mixed with a small amount of balsam, a plant gum and a coniferous resin.

The balsam and the coniferous resin, possibly cedar resin, provided anti-bacterial and anti-insecticidal properties.

Merit's embalming "recipe" was notably different from Kha's. It consisted mainly of an unusual fish oil, mixed with a concoction made of balsam/aromatic plant extract, plant gum, conifer resin and beeswax.

Further chemical analysis of a linen fragment from Merit's red linen shroud showed a recipe in which the same highly unusual oil was mixed with a small amount of conifer resin, beeswax, and Pistacia resin.

The resin, and possibly the balsam, would have had to have been imported from the northeastern Mediterranean.

"Such findings don't support previous claims that the two were poorly mummified," said Egyptologist Joann Fletcher, professor at the University of York.

The keeping of Mummies and construction of Pyramids speaks volumes about the high state of scientific development in ancient Egypt. Almost at the same time, Indian architecture was also maturing and use of stones for engraving Asokan Edicts and their placement at various almost very remote areas also compares favourably in the field of scientific developments of India.

Pakistan continues to Pin Prank India

In addition to violating cease fire frequently, Pakistan has withheld a consignment of household items meant for four Indian diplomats at Wagah for the past one month, official sources said.

The disclosure comes just ahead of the start of the talks between Pakistan Rangers and India's Border Security Force in which the two sides will look to address issues related to increasing ceasefire violations along the International Border in Jammu.

Despite India writing to the Pakistan Foreign Office on several occasions, Rangers have not released the consignment, sources said.

Officials said the issue will be taken up with the Pakistan side in the talks starting on Wednesday. The 16-member Pakistan delegation is led by DG Rangers, Major General Umer Farooq Burki. It also comprises senior officials from the Pakistan interior ministry.

Dates of Rama's Birth, Sita Hanuman meeting and so on claimed to be settled !

Was Lord Ram born on January 10, 5114 BC?

    Times of India | 19th Sep, 2015 12:19 PM

New Delhi - When was Ram born? January 10, 12.05 hours, 5114 BC. When did the war in Mahabharata start? October 13, 3139 BC. And when did Hanuman meet Sita in Ashok Vatika? September 12, 5076 BC.

What historians, here and abroad, say is impossible to establish, has been accomplished by one Institute of Scientific Research or so the institute claims in its ongoing 'Unique Exhibition on Cultural Continuity from Rig Veda to Robotics'. And India's culture minister, Mahesh Sharma, says his ministry will take cognisance of this information and has sought a report.

"I spent a good one-and-a half hours at the exhibition and there is a lot of material there which merits attention," Sharma told ET.

And how was this dating done? "Considerable research" and a software procured for around Rs 7,000 from the US were the keys apparently. "Planetary information" from the Rig Veda, Ramayana and Mahabharata was used to find the exact dates, said Saroj Bala, director of the institute. Hosted at Delhi's Lalit Kala Akademi, the institute's 'findings' have been submitted to the Union culture ministry.

Sharma launched the exhibition on Thursday. Sharing the spotlight with him was RSS Joint General Secretary Krishna Gopal. The minister told ET: "We have asked them to compile all of this information and submit a report on this important issue. There have been allegations and questions raised about the very existence of Mahabharata and Ramayana. This exhibition gives scientific basis for all of this."

The minister's comments made earlier to a TV channel on the late APJ Abdul Kalam being a nationalist despite being a Muslim created a controversy on Friday.

In the light of this news item, the comments of the participant members are invited on the three dates claimed to have been settled by the researchers of the institute which is holding the exhibition.

The Exhibition was inaugurated by the Hon'ble Minister in the presence of RSS Joint General Secretary Krishna Gopal.

The Times of India Report goes on to state the VIP invitees, the methodology and further course of research and its application as follows :

"Among other notable invitees at the exhibition were Archeological Survey of India Director-General Rakesh Tewari and Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Dinesh Singh. But they didn't attend the event.

Bala said HRD Minister Smriti Irani did not respond to an invitation. "We were very keen that the HRD minister also come, but they did not respond," the director said.

"We have shared the findings with the culture ministry. We are now engaging actively with the government and that is why the culture minister came for the exhibition. He also said he was open to looking at this issue afresh. We are hopeful the culture ministry will take this into account," Bala said.

Explaining the institute's method, the director said: "The epics give precise information about which planet was placed where when Lord Ram was born. We simply mapped it on to the software that yielded a skyview and finally the exact date and time of birth. We used the same for dating of the exile of Pandavas, the Mahabharata war, the birth time and date for Bharat, Shatrughan, etc, the exact date when Bali was killed and so on. So these are not mythologies but facts, and that's what the exhibition seeks to establish."
