    Brain Exercise

Akshay was invited to a special Wine and Beer cocktail party. Everyone was supposed to drink full cocktail pegs as either only Wine or only Beer or half or smaller pegs were not allowed. However, anyone could vary quantity of Wine or Beer in the mixture but must take both.

So, Akshay and his friends drank total of 8 cocktail pegs each during the party. Akshay drank one fourth of the total quantity of Wine and one sixth of the total quantity of Beer.

    1. How many friends were in the party ?
    2. Total quantity of Wine ( no. of pegs) ?
    3. Total quantity of Beer ( no. of pegs) ?
    4. Exact Quantity of Wine and Beer drank by Akshay ( no. of pegs) ?

Lets Assume total no. of Friends are n and Total quantity of Beer and wine consumed is X and Y respectively, so the equation would be

    X+Y=8n

    1/6X+1/4Y=8 or 2X+3Y=96

    so solving two equation:

    16n-2Y+3Y=96 so Y=96-16n

    and X would be X+96-16n=8n, X=24n-96

so considering the formula of Y and X the n can only be 5 otherwise both Y and X would be zero or -ve that is not possible.

    So Number of friends 5
    Total Quantity of beer 24
    Total Quantity of wine 16
    I drank 4 beer and 4 wine

Correct. Total of five friends were in the party.

As Akshay became very generous after few drinks he announced a certain prize money to the person who could answer his tricky question. But nobody could answer Akshay's tricky question correctly. So, depending upon their %age try towards the correct answer Akshay divided the Prize money among his four friends as follows :

    A received 1/4
    B received 1/5
    C received 3/10
D received the remaining Rs. 250

So, how much prize money Akshay announced and how much each of his friends received ?

Distribution of Rs. 1000 for incorrect answers should be considered generous.

As all the friends were high and started arguing about who got drunk in the last cocktail party they held together. They were drunk and their memory was playing tricks with them but still they managed to tell some details.

The argument went like this :

Akshay said : It was A
    D said : It wasn't A

A said : It was Akshay
    C said : It wasn't Akshay
    D said : It was C
    B said : It wasn't C
Akshay said : It was D
    C said : It was B
    A said : It wasn't B
    B said : It was A

Now, one of the arguments by each friend is correct while other is incorrect.

Can anyone tell who was most drunk in that last cocktail party ?

    Drunk/ Wasn't Drunk

A OR D/ Nil by Akshay
    Akshay/B by A
    A / C by B
    B / Akshay by C
    C / A By D

Of the above statement, all said one was drunk and one was not except Akshay. So its either A or D

Lets say A was drunk is true, lets look at the statement of B and D

    Drunk / Wasn't Drunk

    B statement : A (True) / C ( False means C was Drunk)

    D statement : C (True as per conclusion from B) / A ( False means A was drunk)

Statement of A and C are balanced either way. And there is no further information on D. So I guess its A who is most drunk.

Anybody interested in claiming that Akshay either need some more time for the wine to settle down or need another drink to sharpen his analytical abilities ?

    Come on, guys !

What happened to your logic ?

At least validate or discard Akshay's choice if you are not able to figure out any other answer.

    Good, that's correct answer

If we assume Akshay's choice ( A is drunk ), then B's both statements becomes true while D's both statements becomes false and that's not possible. So, Akshay needs another drink.

My bad. My unhang over mind got confused between true lies of drunk and non drunk friends. That's why I always say when you drink with friends, all should drink to the time till they don't know who is drunk.

Considering Akshay's theory, they thought they can accommodate few more Beers. Hence, they ordered 15 Beers. After sometime doorbell rang.

A man came in and said, "Here these are. Sirs. As your requirement, a total of 15 Beers stuffed in 4 begs with every bag containing an Odd number of Beers."

All of them were surprised to hear this and assumed either they were High or the man was lying.

Can anyone help them to figure out.

    Technically correct !

Ideal solution is that three bags containing 5 Beers each and a bigger bag containing these three bags in it.

OK. Enough warm up. Now, Lets try some real brain work.

Akshay and his friends were still in senses because they ate a lot of food items with the drinks. All of his friends brought good quantity of snacks, green salad and dry fruits. Here is the list :

Snacks : Chips, Crackers, Peanuts, Bhujia
Salad : Radish, Tomato, Onion, Cucumber
Dry Fruits : Kaju, Almond, Pista, Walnut

After few drinks they forgot who brought what but they remember that all the 12 items were there when they started the party.

Few other statistics they managed to remember :

    Everybody brought exactly 4 items.
    Only two friends brought Crackers.
The friend who brought Kaju didn't brought Salad.
The friend who brought Almond didn't brought Tomato.
    A brought Chips and Bhujia.
    Pista brought by two friends.
    Only one friend brought Tomato.
C brought 3 items of Salad.
    Only two friends brought Bhujia.
    Akshay brought two Snack items.
    Only one friend brought Chips.
    C didn't brought Walnut.
A neither brought Kaju nor Salad.
The friend who brought Peanut also brought Onion and Tomato.
    B brought Cucumber and Bhujia.
Only one item brought by four friends.
Only one friend brought one item from each category (Snacks, Salad and Dry Fruits)
One friend brought all the four item of same category.

Can you figure out who brought what ?

    No Answer ?

Is it brains becoming dull or saving all the reasoning and logical abilities for political threads ?
