SWAMI DEVA-VRAT - SCHOLAR AND LEADER
The pic below is that of Acharya Swami Deva-vrat. I feel compelled to tell the world about him. He left his home in his teenage years to study Sanskrit Grammar in Gurukula Jhajjar, a premier Arya Samaj Gurukula in North India. He has had the unique privilege to study at the feet of some of the most illustrious scholars of Veda, Grammar, Etymology and related subjects. While a Sanskrit student, he participated in training camps organized by the Arya Samaj Youth Movement, called the Arya Vir Dal, and, because of his propensity for discipline and leadership skills, he quickly rose to the level of of a Youth Leader. He integrated scholarship with leadership, and became the Principal National Director of the All-India Arya Vir Dal. Thousands of young men and women were trained under his watchful care. Part of the youth training he imparts involves the ancient art of military combat, called Dhanur Veda that encompasses archery, karate, judo, stick combat, etc. Young men and women graduate from his camps with a knowledge of both Shaastra [scriptures] and Shastra [weapons].
In addition to youth training, Swami Deva-vrat dedicates his limited free time to writing. He has two principal books on Vedas published, and they are widely read and appreciated. I too was a Gurukula student studying Grammar and Etymology for eight years and since 1977, Swamiji has been one of mentors. His writings have inspired me to travel all over the world expounding Vedas, Upanishads, Darshanas, Satyarth Prakash and other texts. In writing about Swami Deva-vrat ji, I bow to the legacy of scholarship and leadership he is leaving for mankind. He is making a difference among people all over the world. I hope I emulate him.
