Ambajogai (अंबाजोगई) is a city and tehsil in Beed district in the state of Maharashtra, India.

History

The town was earlier known as Mominabad and was later renamed as Ambajogai after goddess Ambabai - Yogeshwari whose heritage temple is located here and are visited by people all over from Maharashtra, largely from the Konkan region.[1][2] The town has a lot of heritage places and this township is known as the cultural capital of the Marathwada region.[3] The town has other heritage temples like [Sakleshwar] 12 khambhi, Kholeshwar, Mukundraj cave and Dasopant Swami Samadhi, mukundraj samadhi, Kashivishwanath, Amruteshwar. There is an ancient cave called Shivleni Caves (Hattikhana) or Jogai Mandap declared as a heritage point (Archaeological sites in Maharashtra), where Lord Shankar, Nandi and Elephants are carved in stone. Shiva bramha and Vishnu is also in carved in Stone.

The town has been a cultural centre in the region from the ancient times. The Jogai Temple, Kholeshwar Temple and Barakhambi temples hints the cultural prosperity of the town dating back to 10th century AD.

The town was under the regime of Nizam of Hyderabad before the accession of Hyderabad state to the dominion of India. It was a military base of the Hyderabad state army. The stable of the horses of the cavalry of the Hyderabad army was later turned into a hospital and medical college which later was named as Swami Ramanand Teerth Rural Medical College.

अंबाजोगई

विजयेन्द्र कुमार माथुर[4] ने लेख किया है ...अंबाजोगई (AS, p.7) महाराष्ट्र राज्य में जीवंत नदी के तट पर बसा एक कस्बा है। अंबाजोगई बीड ज़िले के एक ताल्लुक का मुख्यालय है। नदी के दूसरे तट पर मोमिनाबाद नामक क़स्बा है। नगर के आसपास हिंदू तथा जैन मंदिरों के खण्डहर हैं। जीवंती के तट पर ही अंबाजोगई का प्रसिद्ध मंदिर है जो चट्टान में से काट कर बनाया गया है। इसका मंडप 90 फुट X 45 फुट है। यह मंदिर स्तंभों की चार पंक्तियों पर आधारित है।मराठी कवि मुकुंदराम की समाधि भी यहां स्थित है। अंबा के पंचम-जैनों के पूर्वज चालुक्यों के सामंत थे। अंबाजोगई में एक प्राचीन मंदिर है जिसका निर्माण देवगरि-नरेश सिंहन के शासनकाल में हुआ था। इस पर 1240 ई. का एक अभिलेख है।
