Badarpur (बदरपुर, दक्षिण दिल्ली) is a historic town in South East Delhi district in Delhi.

Location

Badarpur is famous for its Badarpur Border bus terminal. It is also serviced by Badarpur Border station of Delhi Metro on Violet Line. The bus terminal and metro station have been renamed by Delhi Government as 'Badarpur border' because they are in Badarpur area and located just 900m away from interstate MCD toll plaza between Delhi and Faridabad border which is commonly known as Badarpur Border.

It is situated on Mathura Road joining Delhi with Mathura and Agra, on NH 2 (Delhi-Kolkata) National Highway, a part of the historic Grand Trunk Road that once joined Bengal to Kabul. It is the starting point for the on the "Mehrauli- Badarpur Road" that passed through Tughlaqabad, Khanpur, Tigri and Saket towards Mehrauli. The Delhi Faridabad Skyway elevated highway also opened at the starting of Mehrauli- Badarpur Road.

Badarpur is also home to the Badarpur Thermal Power Station (BTPS) of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), opened in 1973 and an important power source to South Delhi, South East Delhi and East Delhi districts.

History

Although Badarpur South Delhi is a Gurjar dominated area, but here a large number of Jat community have firmly established their feet. Who are mostly residents of Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Mathura, Jattari, Aligarh, Kaithal, Jind, Hisar and Rohtak.

Population

There is a sizeable population of Jats which is situated on the Lakhpat colony across the canal i.e. Mithapur, Jaitpur, Saurabh Vihar, Molarband, Tajpur in which Lakhpat Colony and Tajpur are called the stronghold of Jats.It is said that at one time there was dominance of Jats, when in the 90s, an organization Jat Mahasabha was functioning, which from time to time used to organize riots related to Jats.Well, with the new era, a new organization named National Jat Community is showing its presence strongly in the Badarpur region at a fast pace. This organization is being led by some youths of Badarpur region like Vishal Verma (Veer Lohan), Harsh Chaudhary, Rohit Balyan and his National Jat Community Team.It is said that the National Jat community is advancing itself as a big youth organization, which is working to strengthen and unite the society, thousands of youth from different states are joining this organization.
