Bharatpur England

Bharatpur (भरतपुर) is a village Aston in England. Aston is a ward of Central Birmingham, England. Located immediately to the north-east of Central Birmingham, Aston constitutes a ward within the metropolitan authority.

Origin

The fort of Bharatpur is the only fort in India which was never physically captured by the British. The British were impressed by the bravery of Jats of Bharatpur. So they named this village after Bharatpur.

History

Ram Sarup Joon writes that ... On 7th Jan. 1805 Lord Lake explored every possible avenue to penetrate the fort. A large number of British Officers and soldiers were killed in this action, the supply of rations and ammunition ran short and they failed in capturing the fort. They employed 5 inch and 7 inch guns but these did not make much impression on the thick mud walls. After two days, they succeeded in creating a break in the Southern Wall and the fort was charged by four Indian units and 1,500 British troops. The Jats repulsed this attack after inflicting heavy casualties. Colonel Maitland and 400 troops were killed. The British advanced for the third time and attacked the fort under the covering fire of heavy Artillery. The troops bravely crossed the mote and tried to scale the walls of the fort. As they came up the Jats kept killing them till the mote was filled with dead bodies, General Smith and Col Meeker, commanders of the British troops requested Lord Lake to sign a peace treaty with Jats.

इंग्लैंड में Aston जगह पर एक क्षेत्र का नाम भरतपुर है।और यहां एक भरतपुर सराय भी है। असल में इस जगह का नाम भरतपुर जाट राजा की सेना की वीरता से प्रभावित होकर रखा गया है। यह बात महाराजा सूरजमल जी के बेटे महाराजा रणजीत सिंह के समय की है जब अंग्रेजों ने भरतपुर पर आक्रमण किया था। अंग्रेजों ने एक एक करके पूरे 13 बार आक्रमण किये मगर अजेय लोहागढ़ किले को न भेद सके। इस युद्ध में उन्हें 13 बार हार का सामना करना पड़ा।

उस समय कहा जाता था कि अंग्रेजो का कभी सूर्यास्त नहीं होता लेकिन अंग्रेज खुद लिखते हैं कि हमारा सूर्य भरतपुर में अस्त हुआ था हम कभी इतनी बुरी तरह से नहीं हारे थे हमने अपनी ताकत का एक बहुत बड़ा हिस्सा भरतपुर में खपा दिया था।

तब अंग्रेजों के सेनापति भरतपुर के वीरों से बहुत प्रभावित हुए थे। उसने अपने देश जाकर भरतपुर नाम से अपने क्षेत्र का नाम रखा व एक भरतपुर सराय बनाई जिसे आज उसके वंशज बिजनेश के रूप में use करते हैं। यहां पर युद्ध के दौरान भरतपुर से चोरी की गई कुछ कीमती तोपें व वस्तुएं भी है जिसके कारण यह पर्यटन स्थल का भी रूप ले चुकी है। आज भरतपुर के नाम से उसके बच्चे बड़ी अच्छी कमाई करते हैं।
