Rivers of India

It would be of interest to the scholars to find the historic names of the rivers of India right from the very days of the starting of habitation in India in proto-historic and pre-historic times to modern times; because, several changes have occurred in the names of the rivers with the turning of wheels of time. Once some rivers said to be very mighty have dried up whereas lesser described in ancient literature rivers have become holiest of the holy rivers and so on. The vedic literature, the puranas and the two epics contain a vast treasure of information to study the location of these rivers of India. Here an attempt is being made to provide identification of various rivers done by various authors.
