Chhur (छूर) is village in Sardhana tahsil in Meerut district in Uttar Pradesh. It is one of the biggest villages in Meerut dist. The villages is inhabited by almost all castes which were essential for self sustaining the agriculture based life of the village folks. Of course, the majority i.e. almost 85-90% are Jats. [1]

Jat Gotras

There is only one gotra of jats i.e. Taliyan except of one odd family which has come from outside and settled here. There are a total of twelve 'Pattis' in the entire village. The village boasts of an inter collage, primary healthcare centre and a separate kanya pathshala.

History

People of this village migrated from Jassaur Kheri (जैसोर खेड़ी) some centuries ago. They came to this place because of its fertile land. The Land Between Ganga and Jamna ( Yamuna) river is considered to be one of the most ferlile land. To get them settled here, it took them two attempts because this region was occupied by Rajputs. They Broke the Chaubeesi (group of 24 village) of Rajputs and settle themselves here. It was the only village of Jats in this region at that time. Afterwards, several other Jats of different gotra started coming and settled in Meerut region.

Location

Chhur is located about approx 30 kms from Meerut town. It is about 10 km NW of Sardhana tehsil which boasts of a very famous Church held in great reverence by Christians. The sardhana tehsil was ruled by Begum Sunroo during British rule.

The total number of households in Chhur village are 1219. It rely on the total population of 7566 people. As far as male population concern the number of population is 4214 of the village Chhur and the total female population number is 3352. The reference taken to publish these data is of year 2009.
