Dhiman (धीमान), Dhimaan, Dheeman, Dhimann is an ancient Gotra of Jats found in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. They are found in many other communities like Rajputs, Brahmans, Lohars, Tarkhans etc. [1]

Origin

Dhimana (धीमान) is also a name of Shiva.

History

They are Shiva Vanshi. They are called as landless Jats.

In Mahabharata

Sabha Parva, Mahabharata/Book II Chapter 28 mentions the list of Kings subjugated by Sahadeva towards the southern direction. Dhimans are mentioned in verse Mahabharata (II.28.50) [2]


Shalya Parva, Mahabharata/Book IX Chapter 44 mentions The ceremony for investing Kartikeya with the status of generalissimo. Dhimans are mentioned in verse Mahabharata(IX.44.5). [3]


Dhiman is also the name of an ancient king born in the ancestry of Brahma, in early Vedic civilisation.
