Gagan Gill

Born in Delhi (1959), Gagan Gill has published four collections of poetry: Ek din lautegi larki, Andhere me Buddha, Yah akanksha samay nahin and Thapak thapak dil thapak thapak.; one volume of prose, Dilli mein uninde and a travelogue Avaak.

She has also published ten volumes of translations of the work of writers like Zbiegnew Herbert, Harbhajan Singh, Sitakant Mahapatra and Shrikant Verma.

She worked as a literary editor for eleven years with The Times of India group and Sunday Observer. She has been a visiting writer from India at the International Writing Program in Iowa (1990) and a Nieman Fellow for Journalism at Harvard University in 1992-93.

Her poetry is taught in several American, English and German universities and is widely anthologized in English.

She has received the Bharat Bhushan Agrawal Award (1984), the Sanskriti Puruskar (1988) and the Kedar Samman (2000).
