Hajipur (हाजीपुर) is the largest city and headquarters of Vaishali district of the Indian state of Bihar.

Location

The Ganges river separates the city of Patna and Hajipur. On the South bank of the Ganges is the city of Patna and to the North bank of the river is the city of Hajipur, & the Gandhi Setu bridge connects both of the cities.

History

In the ancient time, it was known as Ukkacala and was the first village to come after crossing River Ganges at Patna. The village of Hajipur gained significance, as it was the venue of one of the discourses given by Lord Buddha. Buddha preached the Cula Gopalaka Sutta, a Middle Length Discourse, here. Along with that, it is also of interest because a portion of Ananda's ashes were enshrined in the town, the closest disciple of Lord Buddha. Ananda acted as the Buddha's personal attendant for twenty years and outlived him by several decades.

Hajipur, earlier in British India was a small town in Muzaffarpur district situated on the confluence of the Ganges and Gandak. Hajipur figures conspicuously in the history of struggles between Emperor Akbar and the rebellious Afghan Karrani rulers of Bengal.

Hajipur (Vaishali) finds its origin way back in history from the Mahabharata period. It is the place where democracy found its origin around 600 BC. Ancient Licchavi republic was established in this land only. It is the place where Lord Mahavir took birth and Gautam Buddha delivered his last sermon and announced his Parinirvana.

हाजीपुर (बिहार)

हाजीपुर (AS, p.1017): बिहार में गंगा और गंडक नदी के निकट स्थित है। इस नगर को शमसुद्दीन इलियास शाह या हाजी इलियास ने 14वीं शती के मध्य काल में बसाया था। पुराने क़िले में इलियास की बनवाई मस्जिद है, जो अपनी तीन मीनारों के लिए उल्लेखनीय है। गंडक नदी के पुल के निकट हाजी इलियास शाह की क़ब्र है। यह नगर पटना के समीप ही स्थित है।

हाजीपुर परिचय

हाजीपुर बिहार राज्य के मुज़फ़्फ़रपुर जनपद का एक प्रखण्ड है। यह वैशाली ज़िले का मुख्यालय है। यहाँ का धरातल समतल है और यहाँ कई छोटी-बड़ी नदियाँ बहती हैं। हाजीपुर में कई ताल भी हैं। यहाँ बहने वाली सबसे बड़ी नदी 'वया' है। हाजीपुर की जनसंख्या 2001 के अनुसार 1,19,276 है।[1] पूर्वोत्तर रेलवे का जंक्शन भी यहाँ पर है। हाजीपुर के केले और लीची सारे भारत प्रसिद्ध में हैं।
