Homnabad (होमनाबाद) is a city in the Bidar District of the Indian state of Karnataka, India.

Namesake

Homna is a place in Arabia mentioned by Pliny. [1]

Pliny [2] mentions Arabia.....Beyond this (Catharrei = Qatar), the navigation is impracticable on that side,21 according to Juba, on account of the rocks; and he has omitted all mention of Batrasave22, a town of the Omani, and of the city of Omana23, which former writers have made out to be a famous port of Carmania24; as also of Homna and Attana, towns which at the present day, our merchants say, are by far the most famous ones in the Persian Sea.

History

This place is sacred to the memory of another great personality of Bidar-Manik Prabhu. Manik Prabhu flourished at Homnabad in the early years of the 19th century. Throughout his life he preached the unity of all religions and came to be respected and venerated by all communities. Manik Prabhu’s compositions reveal mystical lines. His disciples carry on his traditions at Homnabad even today and the Manik Prabhu Mutt in that place is a great centre of attraction for Hindus and Muslims throughout the year.[3]


Humnabad is known for its rich heritage of temples and proximity to Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. It is known for Shri Veerabhadreshwar Temple, Jai Bhavani Temple, Shri Manik Prabhu Devasthanam temple is dedicated to a great ascetic.

The Manik Prabhu Temple is located on the confluence of two holy rivulets Viraja and Guru Ganga , Banashankari Temple in Nandgaon village. Every year on 26 January, 12 days Shri Veerbhadreshwara jatra Mohotsav is celebrated devotees visit and take darshan many people come from of Maharashtra (MH), Andhra, Telangana and North Karnataka.

होमनाबाद

होमनाबाद (p.1031): जिला बीदर, कर्नाटक में स्थित है. होमनाबाद 19वीं शती के पूर्वाध में दाक्षिणात्य संत मानिकप्रभु का निवास्थान माना जाता है. उन्होंनें सब धर्मों की एकता पर बहुत जोर दिया था और उन के शिष्य सभी मतों तथा जातियों में पाये जाते थे. मानिकप्रभु का मठ होमनाबाद में आज भी देखा जा सकता है. यहां उनके शिष्य संत की परम्परा को बनाए हुए हैं.
