History
About their origin, H.A. Rose writes that Kal Khand (कालखंड), a tribe of Jats, descended from Kala. It has for 25 generations been settled in tahsil Jind, but came originally from Rampur Khandal in Delhi. [4]
Sabha Parva, Mahabharata/Book II Chapter 9 shloka 12 mentions them as Kalakhanjas (कालखञ्ज) included in the list of Danavas who attended the Sabha of Varuna.
- बलिर वैरॊचनॊ राजा नरकः पृदिवीं जयः
- परह्लाथॊ विप्र चित्तिश च कालखञ्जाश च सर्वशः (II.9.12)
Virata Parva, Mahabharata/ Book IV Chapter 12 shloka 13 mentions them as Kalakhanjas Asuras endued with huge bodies and great prowess.

- महाकाया महावीर्याः कालखञ्जा इवासुराः [5]
