Kopeshwar Temple

Kopeshwar Temple is at Khidrapur, Kolhapur district, Maharashtra. It is at the border of Maharashtra and Karnataka. It is also accessible from Sangli as well. It was built in the 12th century by Shilahara king Gandaraditya between 1109 and 1178 CE. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is to the east of Kolhapur, ancient & artistic on the bank of the [Krishna river]].

खिदरापुर

विजयेन्द्र कुमार माथुर ने लेख किया है ...खिदरापुर (AS, p.257) महाराष्ट्र में कोल्हापुर से 3 मील की दूरी पर पूर्व-दक्षिण की ओर बसा हुआ एक ग्राम है, जो विंसेट स्मिथ के अनुसार प्राचीन 'कोप्पम' है। यहाँ कोपेश्वर महादेव का मंदिर नदी तट पर अवस्थित है। कोप्पम के निकट 1052 ई. में चालुक्य वंशीय नरेश सोमेश्वर प्रथम या 'आहवमल्ल' ने चोल शासक राजाधिराज को युद्ध में पराजित किया था। राजाधिराज इस लड़ाई में मारा गया था।
