Lochav (लोचव)[1] Lochab (लोचब)[2] Lohchab (लोचब) Lohchap (लोहचप) Lohchav (लोहचव)[3] Lochhav (लोछव) Lochhab (लोछब) Lohach (लोहच) or Arh is Gotra of Jats. They were called Lohchav as Panwars had inhabited this area in Rohtak.[4] They are found in Punjab Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. They were supporters of Panwar Confederacy. [5] [6][7]

Origin

They are branch of Panwars. The Gotra is basically originated from Panwar but there is a story for that. In the Mughal empire many of the Panwar Jats did not bow to the Shenshaw (King) and could never be conquered. They were entitled Lohmarod meaning 'as strong and adamant as that they can even bend an iron rod'. Later many of these brave people were entitled as Lohchab meaning 'they can even chew iron'. Initially it was a title for those brave Panwars but gradually transformed to separate gotra. Still, Lohchab and Panwar are brother gotras and marriages are not allowed between the two.

History

The King Arh was in fourth generation of Ardas and is mentioned in many stories of Puranas. He was a brave Warrior. According to Todd's Rajasthan the origin of the Arh dynasty cannot be traced out, but a few gotras of this dynasty are found among the Jats.

Ram Sarup Joon [8] writes that ... Arh or Lohchab : The King Arh was in fourth generation of Ardas and is mentioned in many stories of Puranas. He was a brave Warrior. Very few Jats belonging to this gotra are found to day.'Lochab' also known as "Lambora" in village budhwal of mahendergarh district of Haryana.

They have the villages, Bhopania and Ochandi in district Rohtak and Delhi. According to Todd's Rajasthan the origin of the Arh dynasty cannot be traced out, but a few gotras of this dynasty are found among the Jats.
