Gorai-Madhumati River

The Gorai-Madhumati River (Bengali: গড়াই-মধুমতি Gôŗai-Modhumoti) is one of the longest rivers in Bangladesh and a distributary of the Ganges.[3] In the upper reaches it is called the Gorai, and the name changes to Madhumati. Madhumati continuous stream through Kushtia, Jessore, Rajbari, Faridpur, Khulna, Pirojpur and Barguna districts in Bangladesh.

विजयेन्द्र कुमार माथुर[4] ने लेख किया है ...1. मधुमती नदी (AS,p.707) = गुजरात में नर्मदा नदी की सहायक नदी है। मधुमती-नर्मदा नदी के संगम पर मोटासांजा नामक प्राचीन तीर्थ है जहाँ संगमेश्वर का मन्दिर है।

2. मधुमती नदी (AS,p.707) = पश्चिम बंगाल की एक नदी जो गंगा की सहायक शाखा है। हुगली नदी और मधुमती नदी के बीच के प्रदेश को प्राचीन काल में वंग या वंगा कहते थे। वर्तमान पश्चिम बंगाल, वंग का ही रूपांतर है।

मधुमती नदी परिचय

मधुमती नदी कुश्तिया से ठीक उत्तर में पद्मा से अलग होती है और दक्षिण पूर्व में 306 किमी तक बहकर दक्षिण दिशा में मुड़कर सुंदरवन से गुज़रते हुए बंगाल की खाड़ी में मिल जाती है। इसकी धारा के ऊपरी हिस्से में इसे गरई कहते हैं। निचले हिस्से में इसे बालेस्वर कहा जाता है और इसका 14 किमी चौड़ा मुहाना हरिनघाटा कहलाता है। गंगा के मैदान के दक्षिणी हिस्से में मधुमती, पद्मा की विशालतम वितरण धाराओं में से एक है और बंगाल की खाड़ी से जुड़ी हुई किसी भी अन्य नदी के मुक़ाबले नौकायन के लिए सर्वश्रेष्ठ परिस्थितियाँ प्रदान करती है।[5]
