Krishna River basin

Manjira मंजीरा is a tributary of the river Godavari. It passes through the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Telangana. It originates in the Balaghat range of hills near Ahmednagar district at an altitude of 823 metres and empties into the Godavari River.

Manjira is the main river which has its origin near the Gaukhadi Village of Beed district of Maharashtra. The river flows from the northern boundaries of the Osmanabad district and cutting across the Latur district goes to Bidar district Karnataka State and finally Telangana.

It flows on the Balaghat plateau along with its tributaries: Terna, Tawarja and Gharni. The other three tributaries of Manjira are Manyad, Teru and Lendi which flow on the northern plains.

Terna River :This is the main tributary of Manjira which flows on the southern boundary of the Ausa taluka .

Manyad : This river takes its origin at Dharmapuri in Beed district and flows through the Ahmadpur taluka into Nanded district.

Lendi : The river has its origin in Udgir taluka and flowing through the Ahmadpur taluka joins the Tiru river in Nanded district .

Gharni : The river has its origin near Wadval and flows through Chakur taluka. Tawarja : Tawarja originates near Murud in Latur taluka and joins the Manjara river at Shivani on the Latur-Ausa boundary

मंजीरा

विजयेन्द्र कुमार माथुर[1] ने लेख किया है ...मंजीरा नदी (AS, p.683) गोदावरी नदी की सहायक नदी है। यह नदी प्राचीन अश्मक जनपद में प्रवाहित होती थी। अश्मक जनपद की स्थिति विदर्भ के पार्श्व में थी। वर्तमान में बीदर नगर मंजीरा नदी के तट पर बसा स्थित है। मंजीरा नदी बालाघाट के पहाड़ों से निकलती है और गोदावरी में मिलती है। इस नदी में पाँच उपनदियाँ आकर मिलती हैं, जिनमें से दो नदियाँ दाहिनी तरफ़ से और तीन नदियाँ बाईं तरफ़ से आकर मिलती हैं। मंजीरा नदी का नाम वायु पुराण वंजुला भी है।
