Nila (नील) was a King of Mahishmati during Mahabharata. He was subjugated by Sahadeva.

Adi Parva, Mahabharata/Book I Chapter 31 mentions the names of Chief Nagas. Nila (नील) is mentioned in Mahabharata (I.31.7).[1]....Nila, Anila, Kalmasha, Shabala, Aryaka, Adika, Shala, Potaka,....


Adi Parva, Mahabharata/Book I Chapter 61 gives genealogy of the Danavas, Asuras, Kauravas, Pandavas, Gandharvas, Apsaras, Rakshasas. Nila (नील) is mentioned in Mahabharata (I.61.56). Sabha Parva, Mahabharata/Book II Chapter 28 mentions Sahadeva's march towards south: kings and tribes defeated. Nila (नील) is mentioned in Mahabharata (II.28.11).[4].... the hero (Sahadeva) marched towards the city of Mahishmati, and there that bull of men did battle with king Nila. The battle that took place between king Nila and the mighty Sahadeva was fierce and terrible. And the encounter was an exceedingly bloody one, and the life of the hero himself was exposed to great risk, for the god Agni himself assisted king Nila in that fight.

Nila (नील) is again and again mentioned in Mahabharata (II.28.18)[5], (II.28.34)[6], (II.28.36)[7]....And at last, after Agni had disappeared, king Nila came there, and at the command of that deity, worshipped with due rites Sahadeva, that tiger among men--that master of battle.....And Sahadeva accepted that worship and made him pay tribute. And having brought king Nila under his sway thus, the victorious son of Madri then went further towards the south.


Udyoga Parva/Mahabharata Book V Chapter 19 mentions Kings and tribes Who joined Duryodhana for war. Nila (नील) is mentioned in Mahabharata (V.19.23). [8]....And similarly came king Nila, the resident of the city of the Mahishmati, with mighty soldiers from the southern country who carried weapons of pretty make.


Bhisma Parva, Mahabharata/Book VI Chapter 52 describes the order of army in Mahabharata War. Nila (नील) is mentioned in Mahabharata (VI.52.12). [9]....Next to him were those mighty car-warriors Virata and Drupada; and next to them was Nila armed with envenomed weapons. And next to Nila was the mighty car-warrior Dhrishtaketu,....

नीलगिरि

विजयेन्द्र कुमार माथुर[10] ने लेख किया है ...3. नीलगिरि (AS, p.505): सुदूर दक्षिण की प्रसिद्ध पर्वत श्रेणी. प्राचीन काल में यह है श्रेणी मलयपर्वत में सम्मिलित थी. कुछ विद्वानों का अनुमान है कि महाभारत, वनपर्व 254, 15 ('स केरलं रणे चैव नीलं चापि महीपतिम्') में कर्ण की दिग्विजय के प्रसंग में केरल तथा तत्पश्चात नील नरेश के विजित होने का जो उल्लेख है उससे इस राजा का नील पर्वत के प्रदेश में होना सूचित होता है.
