Badhan

Badhan (बाधान) (Bâdhân, Persian: باذان) is a Muslim Jat clan found in Pakistan, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh (India), and Bangladesh. It is same as Wadhan. Badhan is branch of Budhwar.

Origin

Badhan (बधन) or Pakhai (पखई), a tribe of Jats, claiming Saroa origin and descended from an eponym through Kala, a resident of Jammu.

History

It is claimed that they were the native people of Punjab region before the arrival of Aryans. After the arrival of Aryans they resisted the infiltration and eventually merged amongst invaders. Kala, their ancestor, left Jammu and settled in Sialkot. From Sialkot they spread to Gujrat, and eventually Mirpur.

Ram Swarup Joon writes: Budhwar kings are mentioned to have offered presents in the Rajsuya Yagya ceremony of the Pandavas. The descendants of the Budhwar gotra in the western Punjab are called Satroya, Badhan Chatra, Siyan, Gawaya, Goch and Mudyal.

Distribution in Pakistan

The Badhan claim descent from the Dogras of Jammu. They are found in Jhelum, Gujrat and Sialkot districts. There were also a few Badhan villages in Gurdaspur prior to partition.

According to H.A. Rose Badhan people are in Sialkot.
