Palashini

Palashini (पलाशिनी) refers to the name of a River mentioned in the Mahābhārata (cf. VI.10.21). Palāśinī (पलाशिनी) river originating from Śuktimān, a holy mountain (kulaparvata) in Bhārata, according to the Varāhapurāṇa chapter 85.[1]

History
Palashini River is ancient name of river that flows in Saurashtra near Junagarh in Gujarat. It is presently called Palasiyo.
Tej Ram Sharma[2] writes.... Palasini (पलाशिनी) is mentioned in Line. 16 of Junagarh Rock Inscription of Skandagupta Gupta Years 136, 137 and 138 (=A.D. 455, 456 and 457).
This river Palasini issues from the mountain Raivataka. On account of the flood it had swollen. The poet, in describing the scene says that the river had gone to join the sea. Palasini is described as emanating from the mountain Urjayat (i. e. the same as Raivataka). [3] We find another Palasini, (mod. Parās), a tributary of the Koel in Chhotanagpur. [4] It seems that the river was decorated with numerous Palasa (flower) trees that grew on its banks. The flowers falling in the river must have given it the name of Palasini. [5]

पलाशिनी
विजयेन्द्र कुमार माथुर[7] ने लेख किया है ...1. पलाशिनी (AS, p.535): सौराष्ट्र, गुजरात, जूनागढ़ के निकट बहने वाली नदी जिसे अब पलासियो कहते हैं. इसके नाम का कारण नदी पर पलाश (=ढाक) के जंगलों का होना है. पलासियो के आसपास आज भी पलाश के विस्तृत जंगल पाए जाते हैं. गिरनार की चट्टान पर उत्कीर्ण रुद्रदामन् तथा सम्राट स्कंदगुप्त के अभिलेखों से ज्ञात होता है कि पूर्व काल में सुवर्णसिकता (=वर्तमान सोनरेख) और पलाशिनी नदियों का पानी रोककर सिंचाई के लिए सुदर्शन नाम की एक झील बनवाई गई थी जिसका बांध घोर वर्षा के कारण टूट गया था. 453 ई. में सौराष्ट्र के शासक चक्रपालित ने जो स्कंदगुप्त द्वारा नियुक्त था इस बांध का जीर्णोद्धार करवाया था--'सुवर्णसिकतापलाशिनीप्रभृतीनां नदीनामति मात्रोदृवृत्तैर्वेगै: सेतुम-यमाणा-नुरूप प्रतिकारमपि'. 2. पलाशिनी (AS, p.535): छोटा नागपुर की नदी. वह कोयल की सहायक नदी है इसे अब परास कहते हैं.
