Panshurashtra (पांशुराष्ट्र) was a country mentioned in Mahabharata. Panshurashtra was probably located in Orissa.[1]They fought Mahabharata War in Pandava's side.

Sandhya Jain[2] mentions the tribe Pamsu Rashtra (पांशुराष्ट्र) who gave rich tributes to Yudhisthira (II.48.26) and they joined the Pandavas in Mahabharata War (V.II.20).

In Mahabharata

Panshurashtra (पांसुराष्ट्र) is mentioned in Mahabharata (I.61.40), (II.48.26), (VI.10.42),

Adi Parva, Mahabharata/Book I Chapter 61 gives genealogy of the Danavas, Asuras, Kauravas, Pandavas, Gandharvas, Apsaras, Rakshasas. Pansurashtra (पांसुराष्ट्र) is mentioned in Mahabharata (I.61.40).[3]....The eldest of the four sons of Danayu, who was known by the name of Vikshara, became known on earth the spirited monarch, Vasumitra. The second brother of Vikshara, the great Asura, was born on earth as the king of the country, called Pansurashtra. That best of Asuras who was known by the name of Bali became on earth the monarch Paundramatsyaka.


Sabha Parva, Mahabharata/Book II Chapter 48 describes Kings who presented tributes to Yudhishthira. Panshurashtra (पांशुराष्ट्र) is mentioned in Mahabharata (II.48.26).[4].... And king Vasu from the kingdom of Pansu (Panshurashtra) presented unto the son of Pandu six and twenty elephants and two thousand horses.


Bhisma Parva, Mahabharata/Book VI Chapter 10 describes geography and provinces of Bharatavarsha. Pansurashtra (पांसुराष्ट्र) is mentioned in Mahabharata (VI.10.42).[5]....Govindas, the Mandakas, the Shandas, the Vidarbhas, the Anupavasikas; the Ashmakas, the Pansurashtras, the Goparashtras, the Panitakas....

पांशुराष्ट्र

विजयेन्द्र कुमार माथुर[6] ने लेख किया है ...पांशुराष्ट्र (AS, p.540): महाभारत सभा पर्व है 52,27 में इस देश का उल्लेख है--'पांशुराष्ट्राद वसुदानॊ राजा षडविंशतिं गजान्, अश्वानां च सहस्रे द्वे राजन काञ्चनमालिनाम्' अर्थात युधिष्ठिर के राजसूय यज्ञ में उपायन या भेंट के लिए राजा वसुदान ने पांशुदेश से 26 हाथी और 2 सहस्त्र सुवर्णमालाविभूषित घोड़े (भेजे). श्री मोतीचंद के अनुसार पांशुराष्ट्र उड़ीसा में स्थित था.
