Pathari (पथारी) is a town in Kurwai Tehsil, Vidisha district, in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.

Location

Pathari is located at 23°56′N 78°13′E. It is located close to a lake on a hillock with an elevation of 550 metres. There are ancient ruins and caves close to the town in an area known as Badoh-Pathari.

History

A 1269 CE inscription of the Paramara king Jayavarman II was found at Pathari. It records the allotment of land for a religious rite. The inscription mentions Vaḍovyapattana, which is identified with the Badoh village near Pathari.

During the British Raj era, Pathari was the capital of Pathari State, one of several princely states of the Central India Agency.

Important dargahs in the Parbhani district are those of Khani Alam at Basmat, of Hazrat Shamsuddin and Hazrat Shah Mastan at Jintur and of Hazrat Shah Ismail at Kunri. Old forts are at Anthanli, Pathri, Badgaon and Amargarh.

2. पथारी (AS, p.523): जिला विदिशा मध्य प्रदेश, बेसनगर के निकट और बड़ोह से 2 मील दूर प्राचीन स्थान है. यहां से निम्न पूर्वमध्ययुगीन अवशेष प्राप्त हुए हैं: सप्त मात्रकों की मूर्तियां, प्रस्तर-स्तंभ, राष्ट्रकूट नरेश पराबल के एक मंत्री द्वारा 460 ई. में बनवाई हुई वराह-मूर्ति और बालकृष्ण की एक अति सुंदर मूर्ति यहाँ के मंदिर में प्रतिस्थापित है. अंतिम कलाकृति में नवजात कृष्ण देवकी के पास लेटे हैं और 5 सेवक निकट ही खड़े हैं. मूर्ति बहुत भारी तथा विशाल हैं और बेगलर के मत में भारत की सभी प्राचीन मूर्तियों से अधिक सुंदर हैं.
