History

The Ramgarh hills are a popular tourist destination.[2] There are many caves in Ramgarh. It is also believed that lord Rama has come here and lived during his exile. This is the theater of Kalidasa (one of the biggest poet in world of Sanskrit). Here, if someone speaks in the theater his/her sound can be heard far away. In another cave there are some paintings of ancient time. Also there is a long hole, it is believed that when lord Ram lived here this hole was used to keep a watch on invaders. It is also believed that Ramgarh lies on the way to Lanka, the Ravan (The demon who kidnapped Sita) took Sita (wife of lord Ram) from.

Sita Bengra Caves

Sita Bengra Caves are situated on the Ramagiri hill of Ramgarh in Surguja district of Chhattisgarh, India. There are situated near Jogimara Caves in Surguja district of Chhattisgarh. It is known for rock paintings of 300 BC.

According to legends during their exile in these caves hid heroes of Ramayana epos – brothers Laxman, Rama and wife of Rama – Sita. Hence comes the name Sita Bengra – "Residence of Sita".[3]

रामगिरि

विजयेन्द्र कुमार माथुर[4] ने लेख किया है ..... 2. रामगिरि AS, (p.788) = रामगिरि छत्तीसगढ़ के सरगुजा ज़िले (भूतपूर्व सरगुजा रियासत, मध्य प्रदेश) में लक्ष्मणपुर से 12 मील पर [p.789]: स्थित एक पहाड़ी है, जिसे 'रामगढ़' कहा जाता है। इस पहाड़ी की गुफ़ाओं में अनेक भित्तिचित्र प्राप्त हुए हैं। एक गुफ़ा में ब्राह्मी अभिलेख भी मिला है, जिससे इसका निर्माण काल डॉ. ब्लाख के मत से तीसरी शती ई. पू. जान पड़ता है। कहा जाता है कि इसी स्थान पर 'उग्रादित्याचार्य' ने अपने वैद्यक ग्रंथ 'कल्याणकारक' की रचना की थी। इसमें शायद इन्हीं अलंकृत चैत्य गुहाओं का उल्लेख है। कुछ लोगों के मत में कालीदास के 'मेघदूत' की रामगिरि यही है।
