Sonana

Location of Sonana, near Ana, in Pali District

Sonana (सोनाणा) is a village in Desuri Tahsil of Pali district in Rajasthan.

Origin

It is situated near Ana village. Its ancient names are Sinanava (सिनाणव) and Samnanaka (संनाणक).

Location

Coordinates: 25°17'55"N 73°29'30"E. One can reach this place from Sadri via Ranakpur or from Charbhuja via Udaipur/Shreenathji.

History

It finds mention in 'XV Lalrai Stone Inscription of Kelhanadeva S.V. 1233 (1176 AD). (See - Chahamans of Marwar). It refers to the rule of Maharajadhiraja Kelhanadeva ruling at Nadula. It then tells us that Rajaputra Lakhanapalha and the Rajaputra Abhayapala proprietors (bhoktri) of Sinanava and sons of Kirtipala, doubtless younger brother of Kelhana and donar of the Nadol plates made a grant conjointly with queen Mahibaladevi in the presence of village pancha (pancha-kula) for celebrating the festival of god Shantinatha.

XVI Lalrai Stone Inscription of Kelhanadeva S.V. 1233 mentions this village as Samnanaka (संनाणक).

Shri Sonana Khetlaji

Shri Sonana Khetlaji (सोनाणा खेतलाजी) is a temple of Shri Khetlaji located in the village Sonana of Desuri tehsil of Pali district in Rajasthan. Temple located in Sonana is an old temple from where Shri Sonana Khetlaji has moved to village nearby named Sarangwas. Shri Sonana Khetlaji temple located at Sarangwas was found before 800 years ago approximately.

Every year on Chaitra Shukla Badi Teras (according to Vikram Samvat), a big fair is organised for two days. Since this fair is organised after Holi festival a large number of Holi dancers attend this fair in his conventional and fancy dresses. More than one lacs devotee participates in this fair.

Since Khetlaji is folk-deity (Lok-devta) of many castes and communities in Marwar area, so a lot of people come here after their marriage and Child—birth to give thanks to the God. Thanks giving ceremony starts only after Aarti of deity which takes place between 8:30 am to 9:00 am. All the necessary commodities for giving thanks are available at stalls outside the temple.
