Shaurya Chakra

Shaurya Chakra is an Indian military decoration awarded for valour, courageous action or self-sacrifice while not engaged in direct action with the enemy. It may be awarded to civilians as well as military personnel, sometimes posthumously. It is the peacetime equivalent of the Vir Chakra. It is generally awarded for Counter-Insurgency operations and actions against the enemy during peace-time. It is third in order of precedence of peacetime gallantry awards and comes after the Ashoka Chakra and the Kirti Chakra. It precedes the Sena Medal. Before 1967, the award was known as the Ashoka Chakra, Class III.

• Chitru Ram Rohilla became martyr of militancy on 11.02.1995 in Jammu and Kashmir. He was awarded Shaurya Chakra (posthumous) for his act of bravery. He was from Unhani village near Satnali in Tehsil and district Mahendergarh in Haryana.

• Kuldeep Singh Chahar Deputy Commandant CRPF was awarded with Shaurya Chakra for his act of bravery fighting with militants in Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir on 26 August 2017. He is from Goth Buhana village, Chirawa tahsil of Jhunjhunu district in Rajasthan.

• Neeraj Ahlawat (Sep), Shaurya Chakra, played important role fighting with militants on 20.06.2020 at Lakadipur village of Shopian area in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. He belongs to Manoharpura village in Buhana tehsil of Jhunjhunu district in Rajasthan. Unit: Jat Regiment/34 Rashtriya Rifles.

• Pinku Kumar Dangi (Havaldar) (1983 - 27.03.2021), Shaurya Chakra (posthumous), became martyr on 27.03.2021 during Operation Rakshak in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir, fighting with militants. He was from Luhari Baraut village in Baraut tehsil in Bagpat district in Uttar Pradesh. Unit: 6 Jat Regiment/ 34 Rashtriya Rifles.

• Mahipal Singh Jhajharia (08.06.1960 - 19.10.1987) is a martyr of militancy in Srilanka. He became martyr on 19.10.1987 during Operation Pawan in Srilanka. He was awarded Shaurya Chakra (posthumous) for his act of bravery. He was from village Gowla in Chirawa tahsil of Jhunjhunu district in Rajasthan.

• Subhash Chandra Moond (Naib Subedar) (01.12.1965 - 03.10.2007), Shaurya Chakra (Posthumous), From Bhainrupura, Laxmangarh, Sikar, Rajasthan. He was NSG Commando in Unit 10 Para (SF). He became martyr on 3.10.2007 in J&K counter-insurgency operations.

• Sajjan Singh Gahlawat (Major) (08.06.1966 - 23.10.1997), Shaurya Chakra, became martyr of militancy on 23.10.1997 in village Surankote in Poonchh district of Jammu and Kashmir. He was from Khedi Sadh village in Tehsil and District Rohtak of Haryana. Unit: 9 Madras Regiment.

Sajjan Kumar Dahiya

• Sajjan Kumar Dahiya (Lt Cdr) (born:20.10.1939-), Shaurya Chakra, belonged to Nahari village in Rai tahsil of Sonipat district of Haryana. Unit: INS Trishul. On the night of 4–5 December 1971, PNS Ghazi sunk with all 93 servicemen on board (11 officers and 82 enlisted) under mysterious circumstances: off the Visakhapatnam coast, allowing the Indian Navy to effect a naval blockade of East Pakistan. According to the Indian Navy's claims, Captain Inder Singh Malik changed the course at full speed across the specified point and ordered to drop two depth charges, which was done. The Hydrographic correction book of PNS GHAZI and one sheet of paper with the official seal of the Commanding Officer of PNS GHAZI were recovered by Sajjan Kumar Dahiya.

• Manish Baral (Major), Shaurya Chakra, On 08 May 2010, was carrying out a search in Kupwara, J&K. During the operation he led all parties from the front and eliminated two terrorists. For his gallantry, he was awarded Shaurya Chakra. Unit : 30 RASHTRIYA RIFLES

• Harmeet Singh Samra (Major) is recipient of Shaurya Chakra. Unit: Rajput Regiment/10 Rashtriya Rifles.
• Major Nitin Dhania of Dobh village in Rohtak district - got Shaurya Chakra in May 2023.

• Deepak Kumar Padda (Major) (30.06.1976 - 04.06.2005), Shaurya Chakra (posthumous), became martyr of militancy on 04.06.2005 during Operation Satnam at Gangwar in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. Unit: 14 Grenadiers Regiment. He was from Himachal Pradesh.

• Prashant Siwach (Lt) played an important role controlling terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir. He was awarded Shaurya Chakra for his bravery.

Unit: 10 Parachute Regiment.

• Ram Kumar Singh Rathi (Naik) became martyr of militancy on 15.04.1993. He was awarded Shaurya Chakra (posthumous) for his act of bravery. He was from Purkhas village in Gannaur tahsil of Sonipat district in Haryana.

• Kapish Singh Muwal (Lt Commander) became martyr of Casualty on 26.02.2013 in INS Sindhuratna. He was awarded Shaurya Chakra (posthumous) for his act of bravery. He was from Najafgarh in South Delhi.

• Ravinder Singh Malik became martyr of militancy on 01.04.2007 in Doda District of Jammu and Kashmir fighting with militants. He was awarded Shaurya Chakra (posthumous) for his act of bravery. He was from Hurna Darbil village of Doda District in Jammu and Kashmir.
