Solan (सोलन) is a city and district in Himachal Pradesh.

Location

It is located 50 km south of state capital Shimla.

Origin

The place is named after the Hindu goddess Shoolini devi (Durga) of which a fair is held every year in the month of June. It begins with the worship of goddess Shoolini Mata. A 3-day mela is held at the central Thodo ground on this occasion.. Solan was the capital of erstwhile princely state, Bhagat.[1]
