Solan (सोलन) is a city and district in Himachal Pradesh.
It is located 50 km south of state capital Shimla.
The place is named after the Hindu goddess Shoolini devi (Durga) of which a fair is held every year in the month of June. It begins with the worship of goddess Shoolini Mata. A 3-day mela is held at the central Thodo ground on this occasion.. Solan was the capital of erstwhile princely state, Bhagat.
