Sultanganj

Sultanganj (सुलतानगंज) is a city located in the Bhagalpur district of the Indian state of Bihar.
Location
It is situated on the south bank of Ganga River, 25 km west of Bhagalpur city at 25°14'23"N 86°43'48"E.

History
The Sultanganj Buddha is a Gupta-Pala transitional period sculpture, the largest substantially complete copper Buddha figure known from the time. The statue is dated to between 500 and 700 AD. It is 2.3 m high and 1 m wide and weighs over 500 kg. It was found in the North Indian town of Sultanganj, Bhagalpur district, Bihar[1] in 1861 during the construction of the East Indian Railway.[2] It is now in the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, Birmingham, England.

सुल्तानगंज (AS, p.978): एक ऐतिहासिक स्थान है जो भारत में बिहार राज्य के भागलपुर ज़िले में गंगा नदी तट पर स्थित एक प्राचीन बौद्धकालीन स्थान है। सुल्तानगंज में कई बौद्ध विहारों तथा एक स्तूप के अवशेष प्राप्त हुए हैं। सुल्तानगंज से एक विशाल गुप्तकालीन बौद्ध प्रतिमा मिली है, जो वर्तमान में बर्मिघम इंग्लैण्ड के संग्रहालय में सुरक्षित है। यह ताम्र प्रतिमा नालंदा शैली की प्रतीत होती है। राखाल दास बनर्जी ने इसे पाटलिपुत्र शैली में निर्मित्त माना है। [3]
