Todaraisingh (टोडारायसिंह) (or simply called Toda) is a city and tahsil in Tonk district in Rajasthan. It has two parts - Todaraisingh (Rural) and Todaraisingh (M).

Location

टोंक जिले स्थित टोडारायसिंह पुरातात्विक महत्व का प्राचीन क़स्बा है. यह जयपुर से 125 किमी दक्षिण में है. चाकसू से इसकी दूरी 32 किमी है.

Population

As per Census-2011 statistics, Todaraisingh (Rural) village has the total population of 3943 (of which 2086 are males while 1857 are females).[4]

History

James Tod[5] writes that The warriors assembled under Visaladeva Chauhan against the Islam invader included the ruler of Todaraisingh - Then came the array of Takatpur, headed by the Goelwal Jait. Takatpur is the modern Todaraisingh near Tonk, where there are fine remains.

According to Bijolia Inscription of V.S. 1226, one Vaishravana, an ancestor of Lolaka built a temple at Tadagapattana. However there is no trace at present of any old Jain temple. [6]

Solanki History

In year 593 AD (651 Vikram Samant) Rao Raja Rai Singh Solanki founded the Town of Toda Rai Singh (named after himself, Rai Singh - Toda means settlement). Todarai Singh is in Tonk District. Rao Raja Rai Singh had two sons, the elder one was a saint and lived for 120 years his name was Jai Dev Solanki later he was known as Jai Dada Dev and the younger son was brother Rao Raja Dharamdev Singh Solanki. Saint Jai Dev Solanki use to meditate on a Stone slab in the forest. Rao Raja Karam Chand Solanki with his entire tribe and other caste people left Todaraisingh and marched towards Delhi. The clan people reached Palam Village in Delhi in year 781 AD (838 Vikram Samant)

Monuments of Solanki rulers:

Many old forts were constructed by the Solanki Dynasties. Samadhi of Jai Dada Dev/Jai Dev Solanki and baoli in 2.5 acre land. The "Sheela" (stone slab) which Jai Dev Singh Solanki use to meditate on was taken to Palam Village by the descendants of Rao Raja Dharam Dev Singh Solanki brother of Jai Dev Singh Solanki.

टोडारायसिंह

विजयेन्द्र कुमार माथुर[7] ने लेख किया है ...टोडारायसिंह राजस्थान के ऐतिहासिक स्थानों में से एक है। हाड़ा रानी का कुंड इस स्थान का प्राचीन स्मारक है। यह राजस्थान की मध्य युगीन शिल्प कला का सुंदर उदाहरण है।

ऐतिहासिक प्रमाण

शिलालेखों और साहित्यिक ग्रंथों में इसके नाम हैं - तक्षकगढ़, तक्षकपुर, टोडापत्तन, इष्टिकापुर आदि इसकी प्राचीन इतिहास उपलब्ध नहीं है. उपलब्ध साक्ष्यों से पता चलता है कि ईसा की प्रथम शताब्दी के आसपास यह क्षेत्र मालवगण के अधीन था. जिनकी राजधानी कर्कोटक नगर थी जो नगर नाम से टोंक जिले की उणियारा आज भी विद्यमान है. पौराणिक मान्यताएं इस कसबे का सम्बन्ध नागवंशियों से जोड़ती हैं जो इसके तक्षकगढ़, तक्षकपुर नाम से भी स्पस्ट होता है जिनका राज्य यहाँ तीसरी-चौथी शताब्दी ई. के लगभग जाता है. इसके अरावली पर्वत माला के जिस पर्वतांचल में यह क़स्बा बसा है वह तक्षकगिरी कहलाती है. तथा अम्बासागर के उत्तरी छोर वाली नाग के फन की आकृति वाली पर्वतीय चट्टान ताख़ाजी के नाम से लोक उपासना का केंद्र है. ऐतिहासिक प्रमाणों से ज्ञात होता है कि सातवीं-आठवीं शताब्दी ईस्वी के लगभग यहाँ पर चाटसू (चाकसू) के गुहिल शासकों का राज्य था. तदनन्तर टोडा पर विभिन्न कालों में चावड़ा, प्रतिहार, चौहान, सोलंकी, कछवाहा, सिसोदिया आदि क्षत्रियों का राज्य रहा. तथा लल्लाखां पठान, दिल्ली के मुस्लिम सुल्तानों और मुगल बादशाहों का वर्चस्व रहा. [9]

सिसोदिया सामंत शासक रायसिंह के निर्माण में महत्वपूर्ण योगदान के कारण टोडा के साथ उनका नाम जोड़कर टोडारायसिंह कहलाने लगा. [10]

प्राचीन धरोहरों में प्रमुख हैं - कालाकोट के भीतर बना चौहान कालीन राघोरायजी का मंदिर, सोलंकी नरेश राव किल्हण (कल्याण) की रानी सीता कुंवर द्वारा निर्मित कल्याण जी का मंदिर, गोपीनाथजी का मंदिर, चतुर्भुजजी का मंदिर, वाराहदेवी का मंदिर, भूतेश्वर मंदिर आदि [11]

650 वर्ष पूर्व टोडा नरेश राव रूपाल की हाड़ी रानी द्वारा निर्मित विशाल कुंड, जगन्नाथ कछवाह द्वारा निर्मित बावड़ी, भोपत बावड़ी, ईसर बावड़ी और सारड़ा बावड़ी मुख्य बावड़ी हैं. तालाबों में बुध सागर, खरोलाव, अम्बा सागर (आमला) मुख्य हैं. [12]

बिजोलिया शिलालेख में यहाँ श्रेष्ठि लोलक के पूर्वजों द्वारा जैन देवालय के निर्माण का उल्लेख है. [13]
